Yes, Stranger Things returns in 2026—but not as a sixth season of the original live-action series. The returning title is Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, an animated spinoff set between Seasons 2 and 3. Its first season began streaming on Netflix on April 23, 2026, and Netflix has renewed it for Season 2, planned for fall 2026.
Is Stranger Things Season 6 happening?
No. Netflix called Season 5 the final season of the original live-action series. Its finale was scheduled for December 31, 2025, in the United States and several other regions, and January 1, 2026, in some international regions. Netflix’s announcement gives the regional schedule; there is no Season 6 announcement in the cited material. Netflix’s Season 5 finale schedule
“Stranger Things returns” is accurate as a franchise-level description, but it means a new animated story in the same universe—not another chapter of the original live-action run.
What is Tales From ’85?
Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 is an animated series set in Hawkins in winter 1985, between the events of Seasons 2 and 3. The gate is closed and the Upside Down’s inhabitants are cut off from the world, but a new threat awakens beneath the snow. Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas and Max return as characters in a new mystery. Netflix’s series and launch information
