Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning outgrossed Jason Statham’s The Expendables 2 at the international box office, according to Collider. The $400 million figure in the headline refers instead to the reported production budget for The Final Reckoning—not to Statham’s film. The comparison is about international box office, not worldwide totals or profitability.
Which Jason Statham film did it pass?
Collider identified the comparison as The Expendables 2, the 2012 action sequel featuring Jason Statham. Its framing is specifically that Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning passed the Statham film internationally; it does not establish that the newer film surpassed it on every box-office measure. Collider’s comparison is the source for that ranking.
What the $400 million figure means
The Numbers lists The Final Reckoning’s production budget as $400,000,000. The Associated Press also described it as a reported $400 million production budget in May 2025. Neither figure belongs to The Expendables 2, and neither source establishes the newer film’s final profit or loss. The Numbers’ film record and AP’s May 2025 box-office report support the reported-budget framing.
The Final Reckoning’s reported theatrical totals
The Numbers’ film record, accessed in 2026, reports a worldwide theatrical gross of $591,353,074, comprising $197,413,515 domestically and $393,939,559 internationally. These are database totals and may differ from other box-office trackers or later revisions.

| Domestic theatrical gross | $197,413,515 | The Numbers’ domestic component |

| Production budget | $400,000,000 | Reported production budget listed by The Numbers |
| Opening weekend | $64,036,428 | The Numbers’ listed opening weekend; 32.4% of its domestic total |
The $353.8 million worldwide gross cited by AP in 2025 was an interim snapshot, not the final total. AP reported that the film added $76.1 million internationally in its second weekend, including $25.2 million in China. Those dated figures describe that particular weekend; they should not be substituted for the later total in The Numbers’ record.
Why gross minus budget does not equal profit
A worldwide ticket-sales total and a production budget are different financial measures. Subtracting one from the other does not reveal what the studio earned: a complete profit calculation would also need costs such as marketing, theatrical revenue shares and distribution terms, as well as later revenue from home entertainment and licensing. The sources reporting the budget and gross do not provide that full accounting, so the figures do not prove that the film was profitable or unprofitable.

AP quoted Comscore senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian on the value of sustained attendance: “The currency of word of mouth and the strong hold is more important than opening weekend dollars.” That perspective helps explain why an opening weekend alone is not the whole box-office story, but it does not supply a profit figure.
