Tasma Walton filmed her juror role in season 2 of The Twelve around Perth and the Wheatbelt, and the appeal she describes is simple: at the end of a shoot day she could go home. In a PerthNow interview with Clare Rigden published on July 8, 2024, the Western Australian actor, who is used to travelling for work, framed that as a personal experience. It is her account of her own working life, not a general claim that local production always makes family life easier.
Where season 2 was filmed
Filming for the second season began in August 2023 and took place in Perth, York, Northam and other Wheatbelt locations, according to Walton’s interview and the Screenwest production listing. Walton told PerthNow that ABC studios in Perth doubled for the courtroom scenes, so the trial sequences were shot close to the city rather than in a regional building.
The town at the centre of the story is fictional. Season 2 is set in Tunkwell, a rural Western Australian town, and Tunkwell is not a real filming location. Readers searching for it on a map will find the rural exteriors were shot in the Wheatbelt towns named above, not in a place called Tunkwell.
Walton’s role: a juror pushed out of her comfort zone
Walton plays a juror. Her character is a farmer and council worker who lives a sheltered, orderly life. Jury service takes her outside that comfort zone and forces her to confront her own prejudices. Walton describes the part as a character study built around that change.

The season’s trial asks the jurors to decide the case of two people accused of killing Bernice Price, a local landowner. The case is the engine of the story, so the jury room and the courtroom are where Walton’s character is tested most.
Working close to home, in Walton’s words
The emotional core of the interview is Walton’s ability to return to her family after work. She told PerthNow:

“It’s lovely to be able to go home at the end of the day; to be able to do the things you need to do for your family, and not feel like you are away from them.”
She contrasted that with the usual pattern of screen work. “Often, you are away for an extended period of time. And the hours are not kind to families.” In the interview she recalled that her daughter was still awake on one night of the shoot, and she was able to put her to bed. That is one reported example from one actor, and it is best read as her experience rather than evidence about the industry as a whole.

The production’s scale, according to government figures
The Government of Western Australia announced on August 31, 2023 that the production had an estimated $9.6 million in state expenditure. That figure is an estimate published at the time of the announcement, not a final audited total. The same announcement gave more than 150 jobs for Western Australian cast and crew, plus hundreds of local extras.
David Templeman, Western Australian Minister for Culture and the Arts, said in the announcement: “It is an amazing outcome to have a premium series like season two of The Twelve being filmed right here in Western Australia.”

Walton’s related book
Walton’s interview also covered a historical-fiction book based on an ancestor’s abduction by sealers. The project was rendered as I Am Nan’nert’garrook in the 2024 interview. A Guardian profile by Rosamund Brennan, published on September 18, 2026, identifies the published 2025 title as I Am Nannertgarrook. If you want to read it, confirm the spelling against the publisher or a retailer listing before you search, because the two versions of the name differ.
