In the “FBI: Most Wanted” series finale, which aired May 20, 2025, Remy Scott retires from the Fugitive Task Force at age 58 instead of applying again to work past the Bureau’s mandatory retirement age of 57, as TVLine’s recap describes the rule. He leaves to build a new life with Abby and their restaurant, The Muster Room. Sheryll Barnes takes over as leader of the New York Fugitive Task Force.

Remy’s decision in the episode

The pre-finale photos made it look like a goodbye, but they did not settle what Remy would do. The episode does. At a soft opening for the restaurant, which falls on Remy’s 58th birthday, he announces his retirement. He tells the group he wants to spend more time with “the love of my life” and with the business they are starting together. TVLine’s recap, published May 20, 2025, reports that the bar’s name, The Muster Room, is revealed in this scene.

The age detail comes from the show’s own framing. TVLine reports that the Bureau’s stated mandatory retirement age is 57 and that Remy chooses not to apply again to stay beyond it. That is a plot point in a fictional series, not a description of how federal employment rules work in general.

The finale’s premise and title

The finale is titled “The Circle Game.” The CBS episode description, reproduced by TVLine, says the Fugitive Task Force goes after a rogue government operative group that is planning a domestic terror attack, and that the team prepares for significant changes. The title points to where the characters end up: the show’s own showrunner says the episode was named to reflect that life goes on for the task force (see the Hudgins section below).

What the pre-finale images showed and what the episode confirmed

The TV Insider photo gallery and preview, published May 16, 2025, set up questions. The finale answers some of them and leaves others as they were in the preview coverage.

Element Before the finale (TV Insider gallery and preview, May 16, 2025) Confirmed in the finale (TVLine recap, May 20, 2025)
Team mood Photos show the team celebrating, including a cake and Remy’s handcuffs Not stated in the recap beyond the restaurant gathering
Remy’s call to Isobel Castille Remy asks for an in-person conversation without saying what it is about The episode resolves the tease; the retirement announcement is the payoff
Remy’s future Not indicated in the gallery; the preview only speculated Remy retires at 58 and does not apply to work past the stated age-57 threshold
Task force leadership Not mentioned in the preview coverage Barnes takes over the New York Fugitive Task Force
Restaurant name Not named in the preview coverage The Muster Room

If you are comparing the photos with the finale, treat the photos as a preview of tone and the recap as the source for what happened. The preview’s uncertainty should not be read as an open question after the episode aired.

Why Barnes gets the New York job

In TV Insider’s May 13, 2025 recap of the penultimate episode, Barnes is offered the chance to lead a task force in Washington, D.C. She tells Remy she feels more excited than she expected. In the finale she passes on D.C. and takes over the New York Fugitive Task Force, according to TVLine and TV Insider’s coverage.

Other closure beats

TVLine and Parade report several other endings for the ensemble. These are plot details from a fictional show, not verified real-world facts.

What showrunner David Hudgins said about the ending

In a May 20, 2025 interview with Parade’s Lauren Piester, showrunner David Hudgins described the choice to end the series after its cancellation:

“We got in the writers’ room and talked about the series finale,” he said of what happened immediately after cancellation. “The writers pitched so many great ideas. And ultimately, I decided I wanted to end the series with a proper goodbye to these characters we all fell in love with, and provide closure. I wanted to end on a note of hope and not despair. Life goes on for the task force and these characters, hence the title of the episode.”

Hudgins also said the writers discussed putting a character in danger but decided a cliffhanger would feel false for a series finale. For a show that was ending, he said, the loyal audience deserved a proper goodbye.

Reading the preview dialogue

TV Insider’s preview quotes Remy telling the suspect, “I swore an oath to protect the country you betrayed. If an innocent man has to die in the process, so be it,” followed by “Try me.” This is promotional dialogue, chosen to sell the episode’s tension. It is not a statement about real FBI policy, and it should not be read as Remy’s decision about his career.
