How F1 performed at the box office
The film opened internationally on June 25, 2025, followed by its wide U.S. theatrical release on June 27. Apple said it debuted at No. 1 globally. The opening-weekend figures reported by the Associated Press were studio estimates, while Apple’s later figure was a cumulative worldwide total.

These numbers describe different things: the first two are opening estimates, the IMAX figure covers that exhibitor’s network, and the $629 million-plus figure is Apple’s later worldwide cumulative total. AP also reported that IMAX and large-format screens accounted for 55% of ticket sales in its opening-weekend report. That share is distinct from IMAX’s separately reported dollar gross.
What Apple’s record claim means
In its October 13 announcement, Apple called F1 The Movie the highest-grossing sports film and its highest-grossing original feature at that time. Apple also described it as the year’s highest-grossing original feature, the biggest U.S. opening for an original live-action film in the preceding five years, and Brad Pitt’s highest-grossing feature to that date. These are claims made by Apple; the cited AP coverage independently documents the opening estimates and called the debut Apple’s biggest to date.

Box-office gross does not establish how much money Apple or its partners received after theaters’ shares, distribution arrangements, production costs, marketing, and other expenses. The available figures do not establish the film’s profitability.
The film and its theatrical release
Directed by Joseph Kosinski and starring Brad Pitt, F1 The Movie is an Apple Original Film made in collaboration with Formula 1 and distributed theatrically by Warner Bros. Pictures. The film’s opening was a strong start, but the later $629 million-plus figure is the relevant measure for the record Apple announced. The two should not be conflated: an opening weekend is a short initial period, while a cumulative total reflects a longer theatrical run.
From theaters to home viewing
Apple announced premium video-on-demand and digital purchase availability on August 22, 2025, in collaboration with Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. The film made its global streaming debut on Apple TV on December 12, 2025, and Apple’s title page lists it as available to stream.

Commercial momentum beyond the box office
Apple said the film’s soundtrack, F1 The Album, held seven of the top ten positions on Billboard’s Top Movie Songs chart, and that its short-form video content had accumulated more than four billion views. Formula 1 announced limited-edition merchandise for the film on May 29, 2025. Separately, Formula 1 announced in October 2025 that Apple would become its exclusive U.S. broadcast partner under a five-year agreement beginning in 2026. The broadcast partnership is a subsequent business development, not evidence that the movie alone caused the deal.
