Andor ends by handing its story directly to Rogue One: Luthen’s last intelligence reveals the Death Star to the Rebel leadership on Yavin, and Cassian leaves for the Rings of Kafrene, where the film first shows him. The finale also ends on a quieter separation, with Bix and her newborn on Mina-Rau—a reminder of the people and life Cassian leaves behind.
What happens at the end of Andor?
The final three episodes take place in BBY 1, one year before the Battle of Yavin. Lonni Jung’s final intelligence exposes the Emperor’s energy program as cover for a weapon of mass destruction: the Death Star. As the Empire closes in on Luthen’s network, the secret becomes both the reason for the crackdown and the information the Rebels need to act. StarWars.com’s finale explainer places the ending in this timeline.

Luthen sacrifices himself to protect the network
When Dedra’s forces close in, Luthen chooses death rather than capture. His decision prevents the Empire from interrogating a prisoner who knows the network’s secrets, and it gives Kleya time to destroy the radio evidence. His death is not a victory over the Empire; it is a costly act that keeps the Rebellion’s work from being exposed.
Kleya and Cassian get the intelligence to Yavin
Cassian arrives expecting to rescue Luthen, but finds Kleya at the safehouse. With K-2SO’s help, Cassian, Kleya, and Melshi escape the Imperial assault and carry the intelligence to Yavin. The mission preserves Luthen’s final warning, even as the people and organization behind it have been badly damaged.

The Rebel leaders are not ready to act as one
On Yavin, Cassian delivers the warning to Mon Mothma, Bail Organa, and the other leaders. They respond with skepticism. Cassian presses them to understand what Luthen gave up and what the Death Star intelligence means, but the scene does not portray the Alliance as already unified or prepared for the war ahead. The film’s urgency has to be built from this uncertain beginning.
Why does Cassian go to the Rings of Kafrene?
Cassian’s next assignment is a mission at the Rings of Kafrene. The official Episode 12 guide identifies it as the mission where Cassian appears in Rogue One. The film opens with him on Kafrene, meeting the informant Tivik and learning about the Imperial superweapon. The finale therefore does more than point toward the film in general: it sends Cassian to the place where the film begins.
The next steps also connect the series’ political story to the film’s events: the intelligence leads toward Tivik on Kafrene and, beyond that, Saw Gerrera on Jedha. The finale stops at the handoff rather than retelling Rogue One.
What does the final scene with Bix and the baby mean?
The last image shows Bix with her newborn child on Mina-Rau. Its emotional force comes from the contrast with Cassian’s departure: he is moving toward the mission and sacrifice that will define him, while Bix and their child remain outside the life he is entering.

Creator Tony Gilroy told the Television Academy that the final shot was “really about hope.” He described Bix’s decision to leave as a belief that Cassian has an important destiny and that she could be in his way. That is Gilroy’s explanation of the scene’s intent, not dialogue spoken by Bix. The sources do not establish what happens to the child later, so the ending leaves that future open.

The connection works on two levels. In the plot, the Death Star warning passes from Luthen’s intelligence network to the Rebel leadership, and Cassian moves from Yavin toward Kafrene. In character, he enters the film carrying the consequences of Luthen’s sacrifice and the relationships he cannot take with him. That reading follows the events on screen and Gilroy’s account of Bix’s final scene; it is an interpretation of their emotional significance.

The finale also makes the rebellion’s later resolve feel hard-won. The leaders doubt the warning, the network has lost key people, and the events of the film are still ahead. As Gilroy explained in a Walt Disney Company interview, having the endpoint and the boundaries of Season 2—its four years of story told in 12 episodes across four three-episode chapters—shaped the series’ storytelling. Diego Luna said in the same interview that the show changed how he sees Rogue One, including what Cassian thinks about and what he leaves behind.
