On November 18, 2024, Whoopi Goldberg stumbled during the opening of a live episode of The View while walking with her co-hosts toward the Hot Topics table. She stayed on her feet, and she told the cast she did not know what she had tripped over. Entertainment Weekly’s report on the moment does not establish a cause, and it does not report an injury.
What happened on air
Entertainment Weekly reporter Joey Nolfi covered the moment on November 18, 2024, in a piece later carried on Yahoo. According to that report, Goldberg was walking with her co-hosts toward the Hot Topics table at the start of the live broadcast when she took a slight tumble and lost her footing. The report describes no visible obstacle on the floor. That is a description of what the reporter saw, not an explanation of what caused the trip.
What Goldberg said afterward
Once she sat down, Goldberg addressed the stumble directly. Her words, as quoted by Nolfi, were:
“I don’t know what I tripped over.” She added: “It was crazy. I was like, skip, skip, skip, ah! I thought, oh, here I go. So, I’m steady on my feet now!”

Her remarks are the only firsthand account of the incident in the available reporting. They describe a near-fall that she recovered from in the moment, and they are best read as her own description rather than a verified account of the floor or her footwear.
What the reporting does not establish
- Cause. No cause has been identified. Goldberg said she did not know what she tripped over, and the reporting does not identify an object, a floor condition, or any other factor.
- Injury. The report does not mention an injury. That reflects what was reported, not a confirmed absence of injury, and no later update from the show or Goldberg appears in the sources reviewed.
- Health or mobility. Nothing in the reporting links the stumble to a medical condition, a mobility need, or a problem with the set or her shoes. Any such explanation would be speculation.
Who Whoopi Goldberg is on the show
The official The View biography identifies Goldberg as the show’s moderator and co-host, a role she has held since 2007. That biography covers her role and career background; it does not address the incident.

ABC’s season announcement dated September 4, 2026 states that The View airs live on ABC and is available the next day on Disney+ and Hulu. Carriage and streaming terms can change, so check the current listing in your area before you watch. The same announcement reports Season 29 audience figures of a 1.74 household rating and 2.620 million total viewers, which it ranks first among broadcast daytime talk shows for a ninth straight season. Those are program-wide numbers and say nothing about the November 2024 moment.
