His 2024 double-thumbs-up remark was a joke, and a September 2026 report describes renewed interest as something he hopes could help, not as a confirmed route to a greenlight.
What Snyder said about getting a third film made
The 2024 double-thumbs-up comment
In a CBR story published April 15, 2024, Snyder joked, “Probably just in general, a double thumbs up would probably do it.” The line was a playful appeal to fans, not a literal Netflix approval formula or a stated viewership threshold. IMDb reproduces the CBR story and quote.

The September 2026 update
A September 28, 2026 report by What’s on Netflix says Snyder discussed the possibility during an interview with The Direct at TIFF. He reportedly expressed cautious hope that renewed interest could persuade Netflix to make another installment. That is Snyder’s hope as reported by a secondary source, not an announcement from Netflix. Read the report.
Has Netflix greenlit Rebel Moon 3?
No official approval is established by the reporting cited here. Netflix distributes the existing films, but neither Snyder’s fan-facing joke nor his reported hope confirms that the company has authorized a third movie. No reliable greenlight threshold—such as a particular number of thumbs-up ratings or viewing hours—is established in these reports, so viewership figures should not be treated as proof of an approval formula.

For a third-film claim, the key distinction is whether it comes from Netflix as an approval or production announcement, or from a filmmaker describing a possibility. The cited September 2026 story reports the latter. Netflix Tudum’s franchise background identifies Snyder as director and Kurt Johnstad and Shay Hatten as co-screenwriters; it does not announce a third installment.
Where the franchise stands
The latest released feature covered by Netflix’s official materials is Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver, which Netflix lists as released April 19, 2024. Netflix Media Center’s film page provides the release information. The fact that Netflix distributed the existing films does not, by itself, establish that it will make another.

A related Rebel Moon release is not a movie announcement
Rebel Moon: Nemesis is a prequel graphic novel focused on Nemesis, not evidence that a third film is in development. A Titan catalog mirror lists April 1, 2026 as its on-sale date; that listing does not confirm current retailer stock or edition availability. See Titan’s catalog entry.

Netflix has used promotional activations around the franchise, but promotion is separate from a decision to commission another film. Netflix’s announcement of a Rebel Moon-themed film festival activation documents that promotional context; it does not establish a sequel decision.
