Spoilers for all 10 episodes of You Season 2. Love Quinn is the season’s biggest twist: she killed Delilah Alves and Candace Stone, and she admits she also killed the au pair who abused her twin brother, Forty, when they were children. Forty discovers that Joe is a killer but is shot by Officer David Fincher before he can stop him. Joe stays with Love after learning the truth, but the final scene suggests he has not escaped his old pattern of obsession.
How does Season 2 set up Joe’s new life?
Joe Goldberg leaves New York for Los Angeles and takes the name Will Bettelheim. He says he wants to escape his past, including Candace, the former girlfriend he believed he had killed. But his new identity does not end his surveillance, manipulation, or violence. At Anavrin, he meets Love Quinn, who works there with her twin brother, Forty.
Delilah Alves, Joe’s neighbor and an investigative journalist, grows suspicious of him. Candace also returns, using the name Amy Adam, and tries to expose him. The season’s central tension is whether Joe can actually change—or whether his attempt at reinvention is another way to continue the same behavior. TIME’s contemporary review describes the Los Angeles setting and the season’s recurring-obsession premise: TIME’s Season 2 review.
What is the twist about Love?
Love is not simply Joe’s next victim or a partner who will restrain him. She confesses that she killed Delilah and Candace, and reveals that she killed the au pair who abused Forty when they were children. Her revelation turns Joe’s apparent control of the story upside down: Love has a history of violence of her own and understands what Joe is capable of.

The confession also changes Joe’s immediate plan. He intends to kill Love after learning what she has done, but she tells him she is pregnant. He pauses, and the two remain together. That choice is not evidence that Joe has become safe or reformed; it shows that his decisions still shift according to his own desires and circumstances. TIME’s interview with Penn Badgley discusses the season’s turn and Joe’s continuing behavior: TIME’s interview with Penn Badgley.

What happens to Forty?
Forty investigates Beck’s murder and realizes that Joe is responsible. He confronts Joe at Anavrin, but Officer David Fincher shoots Forty before Forty can kill Joe or stop him. Forty’s discovery makes him one of the few people to recognize the truth about Joe, but it does not bring Joe’s crimes to an end.
What does the final scene mean?
After Love reveals her pregnancy, Joe remains with her, and the pair move to a suburban home. In the final scene, he watches a neighbor through the fence and begins imagining a new fixation. That image echoes his earlier obsessions. The scene does not prove what Joe will do next, but it strongly suggests that his self-image as a changed man has not held. This reading is an interpretation of the scene, supported by its parallel to Joe’s past behavior and TIME’s review of his repeated inability to change: TIME’s review.

How does the TV season differ from the book?
Season 2 draws on Caroline Kepnes’s sequel novel Hidden Bodies, but the television adaptation changes details. The novel can offer context for the source material, not a scene-by-scene account of the show’s plot. A University of Pretoria repository discussion compares the show’s opening with the novel: the academic discussion.
