X-Tinction Agenda is a nine-issue X-Men crossover in which a rescue mission in Genosha pulls the X-Men, New Mutants, and X-Factor into a wider conflict. This guide covers the original 1990 crossover’s core reading order, the political stakes behind Genosha, and how the two main collected editions differ. What is X-Tinction Agenda about?
Marvel’s synopsis frames the story as a mission to rescue a friend from Genosha, a mutant-enslaving island nation. The Magistrates strike back, drawing X-Factor and the New Mutants into the fight alongside the X-Men. Marvel identifies Cameron Hodge as a force manipulating events; the teams are captured, brainwashed, deprived of their powers, and forced into combat. Marvel’s 2019 trade paperback listing provides the publisher’s summary, rather than a chapter-by-chapter synopsis.

Genosha’s political system is central to the conflict. A specialist X-Men reference describes an economy built on mutate slavery and connects the exposure of that system to a developing civil war on the island. The hostility between Genosha and the mutant teams also has roots in an earlier conflict. A specialist issue entry says Uncanny X-Men #270 continues in New Mutants #95; the listed sequence follows the event reading order in Comic Book Reading Orders’ X-Tinction Agenda guide. The sequence spans all three titles, so reading only one series leaves out chapters from the crossover.
What happens across the nine issues?
The broad arc moves from abductions and rescue efforts toward an assault on the Genoshan Citadel and the aftermath. The reading-order guide highlights Havok’s revealed role as a brainwashed Magistrate and Warlock’s death among the major developments. These are orientation points, not a substitute for each issue’s full story; a verified scene-by-scene account is not available here.

Is this the 2015 X-Tinction Agenda comic?
