Daniel Garcia should be the next wrestler to win AEW’s National Championship. His September title match against Andrade El Ídolo gives a future victory a ready-made story: Garcia came close enough to earn another shot, and this time he can turn the rematch into a breakthrough. That is a booking argument, not a report of AEW’s plans.
Where AEW’s National Championship stands
AEW announced the National Championship on November 5, 2025, saying its inaugural champion would be crowned in a Casino Gauntlet at Full Gear. The promotion described the belt as a new title that would pay tribute to the past, including Georgia Championship Wrestling’s National Championship, which was unified with the United States championship in 1986. AEW’s announcement said: “The new AEW National Title will forge its own legacy by paying tribute to the past.”
On AEW’s official title-history and roster pages reviewed October 8, 2026, Andrade El Ídolo is champion. The title-history page lists Ricochet as the inaugural champion, followed by Jack Perry, Mark Davis and Andrade. Andrade defeated Mark Davis at AEW: Redemption on July 26, 2026. AEW’s title history and official roster identify the current champion.
Why Daniel Garcia should win next
Garcia challenged Andrade on September 19, 2026, and Andrade retained in his fourth successful defense. That result creates a useful foundation for a rematch: Garcia has already been established as a credible challenger, and a later win would pay off a conflict viewers have seen rather than introduce a title change without context. A Garcia victory would also give the championship a clear role in his trajectory: it could mark a meaningful step forward while continuing the title’s early history. The case is not that Garcia has already earned a guaranteed rematch or that AEW has announced one; it is that the existing title program offers a coherent route to one.
How PAC fits the title picture
PAC is the strongest alternative. AEW positioned him as Andrade’s challenger for All Out, and PAC said he had beaten Andrade before. Andrade nevertheless retained at the September 26, 2026 event, recording his fifth successful defense. AEW’s All Out results establish PAC as a recent challenger with a credible rivalry, not a confirmed next contender.

Another PAC match could extend that rivalry, but Garcia is the fresher next-step choice after the documented results. PAC can remain in the picture without being the immediate pick.

A strong choice should connect to the championship’s current story while making a win matter for the wrestler who earns it. Four useful questions help separate a plausible contender from a merely famous name:

- Is there existing story momentum? Garcia and PAC have both recently challenged Andrade, so either could enter a next chapter without an invented path.
- Would winning move the wrestler forward? A title change should feel like a consequential career step, not just another line on a résumé.
- Does the matchup have room to develop? A rematch can build on what has already happened, while the next challenger should bring a distinct reason for the audience to care.
- Do the champion’s defenses support the next story? Andrade’s wins over Garcia and PAC establish a champion who has beaten both; a future challenger needs a believable reason to overcome that record.
These are editorial criteria, not official AEW booking rules. Based on the recorded title program, Garcia best combines an existing story with the potential for a satisfying next step.
