The “nightmare” in the headline refers to the logistics of one intimate scene in Original Sin (2001), not to Antonio Banderas describing Angelina Jolie as difficult to work with. In the reports that circulated in 2023, Banderas said he could not touch Jolie during the scene because her tattoos were covered with makeup that he had to avoid disturbing. He also described repeated stops and adjustments on set. Both accounts are secondhand, and both trace back to an interview with the Daily Mail that is not available to check directly.
What Banderas reportedly described
Two secondary articles carry the same core explanation. Startefacts, in a piece dated July 26, 2023, and Koimoi, in a piece dated September 6, 2023, both attribute the remarks to the Daily Mail. Neither reproduces a full transcript, and neither was checked against the original interview. The account falls into two parts.
The tattoos and the makeup
The central point is practical. According to the reports, Jolie had tattoos across her body, and they were covered with makeup for the scene. Banderas said he could not touch her because he had to avoid dislodging that makeup. Koimoi repeats this explanation in the same terms. It describes a continuity constraint on set, not a restriction Jolie placed on him or a statement about her temperament.
Repeated stops and adjustments
Startefacts also reproduces a second passage in which Banderas describes the setup around the scene: a large crew, frequent calls of “Cut!”, and crew members adjusting his hair and the position of his arms. He called the experience “not sexy at all.” This is the source of the “nightmare” tone. It describes how a closely choreographed shoot interrupts intimacy, and it is his recollection as quoted by a secondary outlet.

The quotations, as they were reported
The following sentences are presented as Banderas’s words in Startefacts. They are reproduced as published there and have not been verified against the original interview:
“Doing a sex scene with Angelina Jolie was the same as doing a scene where I have to fall off a horse. You have to make it look real, but it just isn’t. We had to do a very intense sex scene in Original Sin but, of course, it’s nothing like the way it looks on screen. I couldn’t touch her, because she had tattoos everywhere and they had to be covered with makeup, so I had to try not to dislodge it.”

“When there are 150 guys around you and every 20 seconds they shout ‘Cut!’ and then mess with your hair and the positioning of your arms, it’s not sexy at all. I was completely naked and of course, you worry that you may get aroused — and it happens sometimes — but then you think to yourself, ‘So what?'”
The figures “150” and “every 20 seconds” are part of Banderas’s personal description. They are not production statistics, and no independent source confirms them. If you quote them, attribute them to him and to the Daily Mail interview as relayed by Startefacts.

What the reports do not establish
- They do not show that Banderas found Jolie personally difficult. The reports frame the problem as makeup continuity during one scene.
- They do not describe the whole shoot as a nightmare. The broader phrase comes from the headline.
- They do not confirm that Jolie imposed any rule on physical contact. The explanation given is that the makeup had to stay intact.
- They do not establish how often the scene was actually stopped. The “every 20 seconds” figure is his impression.
About the film
Original Sin is a 2001 erotic thriller in which Banderas and Jolie play lovers. Michael Cristofer wrote and directed it, according to Koimoi. The reports discuss the filming of one intimate scene, and nothing in them addresses the film’s wider production or reception.

The headline overstates what Banderas said. His reported complaint was about a single scene: he could not touch Jolie because her tattoos were covered with makeup, and the crew’s repeated stops made the moment feel mechanical. Read that way, the story is about filming logistics in an intimate scene, not about Jolie as a co-star. The original Daily Mail interview is the only source that would settle the exact wording, and the secondary reports are the only versions currently available.
