In Marvel’s Age of Apocalypse alternate timeline, Logan—known as Weapon X—loses his hand after slashing Cyclops’ face, then continues fighting Apocalypse. Marvel’s summaries do not say that he literally loses his soul. That part of the title works best as a metaphor for the violence and personal cost of surviving this world, not as a supernatural plot event.

Which Wolverine story is this?

This is not the main Marvel timeline’s Wolverine. In the alternate history of Age of Apocalypse, Charles Xavier’s death changes the course of events, and Logan takes the name Weapon X. Marvel’s guided tour of the Age of Apocalypse places Weapon X and Jean Grey’s missions within that altered world.

How does Logan lose his hand?

Marvel’s account is concise: Logan slashes Cyclops’ face, and the encounter costs him his hand. He does not stop resisting Apocalypse afterward. The official summary does not give the full sequence of blows, identify the exact mechanism of the amputation, or explain why his healing ability does not restore the hand. Those details should not be supplied as established fact without checking the comic itself.

Readers looking for a single scene in which the hand is cut off may find that the official summaries do not show or describe one. Marvel’s costume feature associates this character material with X-Men Chronicles (1995) #2 and says the injury follows Logan’s attack on Cyclops. A reader discussion reports that Logan is already without the hand in that issue, but that is not primary evidence for the precise first appearance or panel sequence. The comic is the source to consult for those specifics.

Does Logan literally lose his soul?

No literal loss of a soul is established in the Marvel summaries. They describe a physical injury, Logan’s conflict, and his continued resistance; they do not describe a supernatural event in which his soul is taken or destroyed. “Losing his soul” is therefore an interpretation of what violence and survival do to him: he can keep fighting while paying a lasting personal price. It is thematic language, not a confirmed plot point.

Where should you start reading?

Marvel lists the central event in the X-Men: Age of Apocalypse Omnibus. For material beyond the main crossover, Marvel separately catalogs an X-Men: Age of Apocalypse hardcover companion collection, which includes X-Men Chronicles #1–2. Marvel’s character feature also points to X-Men Chronicles #2 in its Age of Apocalypse coverage. The companion volume is an additional route into stories from the setting, rather than a substitute label for the central event collection.

Catalog listings establish the collections and the companion’s listed contents, but print availability and edition details can change. Check the current Marvel listing for the version you intend to read.
