Co-creator Christian Linke said the team had a specific ending in mind from the start and that the story concludes in Season 2. That makes the distinction important: Arcane ended, but Linke described it as a planned conclusion—not evidence that Netflix canceled the series. He also said Riot wanted to tell more stories in Runeterra, the setting shared with League of Legends.
Was Arcane canceled by Netflix?
The available public statements do not show that Netflix canceled Arcane. In Netflix’s November 2024 Season 2 guide, co-creator Christian Linke said the team had “a very specific ending in mind” from the beginning, and that “the story of ARCANE wraps up with this second season.” Netflix presented the season as the series’ final chapter.

That is the clearest explanation for why the show stopped at two seasons: its creators said this particular story had reached its intended ending. Netflix streamed the series, but the cited public statements do not document a Netflix cancellation order.
What happened to the second season?
Arcane had a second season in production well before the final-season announcement. Riot Games confirmed on November 22, 2021, that Season 2 was already in production and would continue to be made by Riot. The company’s announcement said the wait would not take another six years; it did not promise further seasons beyond the second.
#1 Best Overall
The sequence matters: Riot announced a second season, and the creators later described that season as the conclusion of Arcane. A second season is not evidence that the show was intended to run indefinitely.
Does the ending mean League of Legends stories are over?
No. Linke continued his statement by saying, “But ARCANE is just the first of many stories that we want to tell in Runeterra.” That expresses Riot’s intent to tell more stories in the setting; it does not confirm a particular follow-up series, release date, or production schedule.
Rank #2
So there are two separate answers: Arcane’s story ends with Season 2, while the broader Runeterra setting was not described by Linke as finished.
Did production costs cause the ending?
The cited official statements do not establish that cost forced the series to end after two seasons. Stories about expensive animation or production budgets should not be treated as the confirmed reason without a reliable source directly connecting those costs to the decision. Linke’s stated explanation is that the ending had been planned from the beginning. That public explanation does not prove that financial considerations never arose in private discussions; it means the available statements do not establish them as the cause.

Who made Arcane?
Netflix describes the series as based on Riot Games’ League of Legends, co-created by Christian Linke and Alex Yee, and animated by Fortiche Production in partnership with Riot Games. Netflix is the streaming platform, while Riot and Fortiche are identified in the production credits. This partnership context does not change what the creators said about the story’s endpoint.
