Sarah Ferguson and Andrew continued to share a home after their divorce, but the available reporting does not establish one definitive reason why. And the premise is now outdated: a 7 October 2026 report said they were living separately, with Andrew at Marsh Farm on the Sandringham estate.
Why did they share a home after their divorce?
The sources establish that Ferguson and Andrew shared a residence after divorcing, but neither person is quoted giving a clear explanation for the arrangement. It would be speculation to present family continuity, convenience or any other theory as their confirmed motive.
In particular, Buckingham Palace’s later announcement concerned Andrew’s Royal Lodge lease and planned move; it did not explain the former couple’s private living arrangements or why they had shared a home.
When did they stop living together?
Royal Lodge in 2025
On 31 October 2025, Buckingham Palace said: “Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation.” Buckingham Palace’s statement confirmed the notice and planned move, but did not say where Ferguson would live.

That day, Sky News reported that Ferguson was still living with Andrew at Royal Lodge and would make her own living arrangements after the lease surrender. Sky News’s report describes the situation at that time—not their later or present living arrangements.
Separate homes reported in 2026
On 7 October 2026, Marie Claire, citing The Times and unnamed sources, reported that Andrew was living at Marsh Farm on the Sandringham estate without Ferguson. The report also said the former couple were no longer speaking. Marie Claire’s account presents these as reported claims, not as an official statement by Andrew or Ferguson.

What else was happening at the time?
On 17 October 2025, Andrew said he would no longer use his title or honours, adding: “I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me.” In that statement, he also said he “vigorously deny[ied] the accusations against me.” These are his stated positions; they do not explain the former couple’s housing decisions. The Royal Household published his statement.
