Kenny Omega’s One Winged Angel is special less for what it does in the ring than for how rarely it is allowed to end a match. AEW names it Omega’s signature move, and the reputation built around it rests on a simple idea: when an opponent gets out of it, the kickout means something. Will Ospreay’s account of kicking out of it in 2026 is the clearest first-hand description of that weight currently on record.
A finisher defined by its scarcity
A finisher’s perceived force depends partly on how seldom a performer lets an opponent escape it. Many wrestlers have a finishing move that is kicked out of regularly, and the audience registers that as routine. The One Winged Angel carries a different reputation because Omega has protected it. Its importance is built on its rarity and on the story attached to each attempt, not on any claim about physical danger.
AEW’s roster page describes the One Winged Angel as Omega’s “Signature Move,” which establishes that it belongs to his identity in the company. What it does not establish on its own is how often opponents have escaped it. That detail comes from the people who were in the ring.
What Will Ospreay said about surviving it
In a September 10, 2026 interview recap, Will Ospreay said Omega had protected the One Winged Angel for 14 years. He also identified Kota Ibushi, Omega’s long-time tag partner, as the only person to kick out of it before Ospreay. Those are Ospreay’s statements. They have not been independently checked as an exhaustive count, so they should be read as his account of the move’s history rather than as a verified record.

Ospreay described being allowed to kick out as one of the greatest honors of his career as a performer. He framed the significance this way: “The significance and the importance behind that move cannot be understated.” The near-fall mattered to him because of the history Omega had attached to the move, not only because of the sequence itself.
The Stormbreaker sequence and the “Plan B” finish
Ospreay said the spot became a fallback after a similar idea was used in another match. According to his account, both the One Winged Angel and Stormbreaker were kicked out of once before the finish. The two-kickout structure is what gives the finish its shape: the audience sees a move that is expected to end the match fail once, then see the sequence continue toward the conclusion.
The reported history is the point here. Ospreay’s description treats each kickout as a turning point in the story, which is why his recap reads less like a move breakdown and more like an account of how a finish was earned.

Where the gaming connection comes from
Bell Media reports that Omega’s love of Final Fantasy inspired both his “Omega” nickname and the One-Winged Angel name. The reporting establishes a broad Final Fantasy link. It does not identify a specific title or installment as the source, and this article does not name one.

What the available evidence does not establish
- No reliable move-specific injury statistics are available, and the move’s reputation should not be read as a claim about physical danger.
- No independently verified total count of kickouts has been published. The 14-year and “only Ibushi” details come from Ospreay.
- No direct statement from Omega explaining his design intent for the move has been located in the sources reviewed.
- Current availability, editions, and pricing for AEW: Fight Forever were not confirmed for this article.
Why the reputation holds
The One Winged Angel’s reputation rests on protection, testimony, and story. Omega’s signature move is, by its own history as Ospreay describes it, rarely escaped, and the few kickouts that have happened carry meaning because of it. Ospreay’s account is the strongest direct evidence for that meaning, and it places the honor of the kickout inside the match story rather than in the mechanics of the move.

Readers comparing it with other finishers should use story-based questions: how often the move is used, whether opponents escape it, what is at stake when it appears, and whether an exception carries narrative history. Those are the axes on which the One Winged Angel stands out.
