David Beckham did not attend Inter Miami’s White House visit on March 5, 2026. CNN reported that he missed the event because of family commitments. A White House official told CNN, as reported by Goal, that Beckham was in Europe for his wife Victoria Beckham’s fashion show. Coverage of the visit has not carried a direct statement from Beckham himself explaining his absence, so the specific reason should be attributed to those reports rather than presented as his own account.
What the visit was for
Inter Miami visited the White House on March 5, 2026 to celebrate the club’s first MLS Cup championship. The team won the final 3–1 against the Vancouver Whitecaps in December 2025. Field Level Media, which reported the scheduled visit on February 28, 2026, gave the date, the purpose of the event and the championship result.
Beckham is an Inter Miami co-owner, which is why his absence drew attention. Sports Business Journal, reporting on March 6, 2026, corroborated that he was not at the event.
The reasons reported for his absence
Family commitments, according to CNN
CNN’s report on the visit states that Beckham did not attend because of family commitments. This is the broadest explanation in the coverage and the one with the most direct sourcing to a major news outlet.

The fashion show in Europe, according to a White House official
The more specific detail comes from a White House official, as relayed by CNN and repeated by Goal in its March 6, 2026 report. According to that account, Beckham remained in Europe for Victoria Beckham’s fashion show.
This detail is secondhand. Goal’s report attributes it to CNN’s reporting of the official, so it carries the weight of that attribution rather than independent confirmation from the Beckhams or from a second outlet’s own reporting.

What is and is not established
- Established: Beckham was absent from the March 5, 2026 visit, and CNN, Goal and Sports Business Journal agree on that.
- Established as attributed reporting: family commitments (CNN), and a White House official’s account that the commitment was Victoria Beckham’s fashion show in Europe (CNN, as relayed by Goal).
- Not established: any explanation from Beckham himself, any political motive, or any suggestion that the absence was a snub. None of the coverage supports those readings.
Timeline
- December 2025: Inter Miami beats the Vancouver Whitecaps 3–1 in the MLS Cup final.
- February 28, 2026: Field Level Media reports the scheduled White House visit and its purpose.
- March 5, 2026: The visit takes place without Beckham. CNN reports family commitments as the reason.
- March 6, 2026: Goal reports the White House official’s account of the fashion-show trip. Sports Business Journal confirms Beckham was not at the event.
How to describe the absence accurately
When quoting the explanation, keep the attribution in the sentence. “A White House official told CNN, as reported by Goal, that Beckham was in Europe for Victoria Beckham’s fashion show” is accurate. “Beckham skipped the White House because of his wife’s fashion show” is not, because it turns a secondhand account into a statement of fact from Beckham.
For the event itself, “White House visit” or “celebration” is the neutral description. Coverage of the day describes a team visit to mark the championship.
