Max Verstappen’s partner is Kelly Piquet, a Brazilian-Dutch model and media professional. Reporting places the start of their relationship in 2020, and the couple made it public in January 2021. They have a daughter, Lily, who was born in 2025. Piquet also has an older daughter, Penelope, from a previous relationship with former Formula 1 driver Daniil Kvyat.
Who Kelly Piquet is
Piquet is the daughter of Nelson Piquet, the three-time Formula 1 world champion, and Sylvia Tamsma, a Dutch model. Motorsport.com reports that she was born in Homburg, Germany, and spent her early years in the south of France.
The reporting is less consistent about when she moved to Brazil. Motorsport.com says the family relocated there when she was 12. In a Vogue Netherlands cover interview, as quoted by Motorsport.com, Piquet recalled that she first came to Brazil at five, with her brother Nelson, who was eight, and that he was immediately drawn to karting. A first visit followed by a later permanent move would fit both accounts, but the sources do not say that, so this article does not assume it.
Motorsport.com also reports that she studied International Relations at Marymount Manhattan College in New York, with a focus on political science and economics.

Career outside motorsport
Piquet’s professional background is in fashion, journalism, social media and public relations. According to Motorsport.com, her reported roles include:
- Stylist assistant at Vogue Latinoamerica
- Work in the couture buying office at Bergdorf Goodman
- Columnist for Marie Claire in 2014
- Social media and PR consultant for Formula E Holdings in London in 2015 and 2016
These details come from a single outlet’s profile. They show that her public work predates and extends beyond her relationship with Verstappen, and they are the most reliable guide to her independent career currently available in English-language reporting.

Family life, Penelope and privacy
Penelope
Penelope is Piquet’s daughter from her relationship with Daniil Kvyat. Verstappen has described his role in her life as that of a bonus dad, and says he has known her since she was one. Coverage of the family generally does not go beyond those facts, and this article does not either.

Lily and the question of publicity
Verstappen has said that he wants Lily to decide for herself, later, whether she wants public attention. Crash.net quotes him explaining why he did not bring her into the F1 paddock as a baby or young child: “A baby or young child should lead a carefree life.” These are Verstappen’s own statements about his approach, not independent findings about parenting.
What Piquet said in 2026
In July 2026, on the Not Alone podcast, Piquet said that family life largely revolves around Verstappen’s schedule, because of his F1 calendar. She also described the two of them supporting each other through the demands of that job. Formule1.nl reported the remarks; the English here is a paraphrase of the Dutch original.

What the reporting does and does not establish
- Established by multiple outlets: the relationship dates to 2020, the public announcement came in January 2021, and the couple has two children together with Lily, born in 2025.
- Reported by a single outlet: Piquet’s birthplace, her education, and her career roles in fashion, journalism and PR.
- Not established in the reporting reviewed: whether the couple is married. This article does not assume they are.
- Omitted on purpose: social media follower counts. Different outlets cite different totals from different dates, and none of them is a reliable current figure.
For readers following the story, the most reliable updates will come from the couple’s own public statements, which have so far been limited to announcements, brief interviews and podcast appearances.
