Taylor Frankie Paul is a Utah influencer and a leading figure in MomTok, a circle of social-media creators. In 2022 she publicly described a “soft swinging” arrangement that she and her then-husband, Tate Paul, had with other couples, and said she had crossed a boundary within that agreement. Hulu later built its reality series The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives around the group and its story. Because the controversy involves real people and intimate conduct, this explainer keeps three things separate: what Paul said, what other people and reporting have said, and what Hulu’s series presents.
Who is Taylor Frankie Paul?
Taylor Frankie Paul is a Utah-based influencer. Hulu describes her as a leading figure in the public story of MomTok, and her name is the one most often attached to the group in coverage of the 2022 controversy and the series that followed. The Associated Press’s 2025 headline describes her as the newest Bachelorette, a role that links her to a television franchise beyond Hulu. Her profile in the group is the reason most readers search for her by name.
What MomTok is
MomTok is the name Hulu uses for the circle of creators whose public story Hulu’s MomTok explainer sets out. The term describes a community of creators who appeared together in online content, not a defined list of participants. Appearing in the same videos or friendship group does not mean someone took part in the arrangement described in 2022, and readers should not assume that it does.
What Paul disclosed in 2022
The controversy became public in 2022, and most of what is known about it comes from Paul’s own statements, as reported by the press. The key points are:

- Where it was said: The Los Angeles Times dates Paul’s disclosure to a TikTok Live session.
- What she said: She and Tate Paul had participated in what they called “soft swinging” with other couples, and she said she had crossed a boundary in the agreement the couple had made.
- What followed: The disclosure brought the private arrangement and the breakdown of her marriage into public discussion. The Associated Press also describes the 2022 revelation.
- What it does not settle: Paul’s account identifies the couple’s own arrangement. It does not establish who else was involved, and the wider group’s accounts differ (see below).
What “soft swinging” means
Hulu describes “soft swing” as couples consensually engaging in physical intimacy with others under rules and boundaries, stopping short of full partner swapping. That is Hulu’s explanation of the phrase as it is used in this story, not a formal category.
- It is not a standardized term: It has no fixed clinical, legal or religious definition. Participants and media use it to describe intimacy within agreed limits.
- The core issue is the agreement: The story turns on the rules the couples set and on Paul’s statement that a boundary was crossed, not on the specific acts involved.
- Details beyond this are not established: The public reporting does not support a fuller account of individual conduct, and this article does not provide one.
Were all MomTok members involved?
No. Hulu’s explainer states that Paul’s disclosure named other people and that most of the wider group were not involved. Coverage also records denials and disagreement about how the story has been told, so the accounts are not uniform. The table below sorts the claims by the kind of evidence behind them.

How the series connects to the controversy
Hulu presents The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives as a reality series that follows the MomTok circle, and it identifies the series as a Hulu Original. The connection between the show and the 2022 controversy is therefore one of premise: the group and its public story are the subject of the series.
- 2024: Hulu premiered the series. Its verified YouTube channel published an official promotional video titled “Taylor Frankie Paul Discusses Soft Swinging” on September 4, 2024, available at Hulu’s upload on YouTube. The transcript was not reviewed for this article, so no quotation from the video is reproduced here.
- 2026: Hulu’s cast guide, published June 26, 2026, continues to identify Paul and the controversy as central context for the series.
A reality series is produced for television. Hulu edits and frames events for the screen, so the show should be read as one producer’s presentation of the group, not as a documentary record of what happened in 2022.

Later developments
Paul’s public profile has continued to change since 2022. The Associated Press’s 2025 article on her role as the newest Bachelorette places her in a second franchise. A Los Angeles Times report from March 19, 2026 covers how a Bachelorette crossover involving Paul was paused. Neither report resolves the 2022 account, and later career developments should be read separately from it.
