Harriet Sperling is an NHS nurse who married Peter Phillips on 6 June 2026. Phillips is the son of Princess Anne, the Princess Royal, and the eldest grandson of the late Queen Elizabeth II. As of 8 October 2026, she is his wife, not his fiancée. Earlier coverage of their engagement, which was announced in August 2025, used the fiancée label, and that is why many older pages still carry it.
Who Harriet Sperling is
Sperling is described in engagement coverage and in Associated Press reporting on the wedding as a nurse working for the National Health Service. The engagement statement identified her as the daughter of the late Mr Rupert Sanders and Mrs Mary Sanders of Gloucestershire. The reporting reviewed for this article does not establish her age, earlier career history, personal views or family life beyond those points, so those details are left out here rather than inferred.
Who Peter Phillips is
Peter Phillips is the son of the Princess Royal and Captain Mark Phillips. Because he is the son of Princess Anne, he is a grandson of the late Queen Elizabeth II, and the engagement statement and wedding reports describe him as her eldest grandson. His marriage places Sperling in his family as his wife, and the public-facing description of her role is therefore tied to that relationship rather than to any royal title. Reporting did not describe her as holding a royal title.
Timeline of the relationship
The key dates below come from the engagement and wedding reports. The first public sighting is a dated observation, not evidence of when the private relationship began.

The engagement statement
The announcement was issued for the couple and is not attributed to any named speaker. As reproduced by The Independent, it read: “Mr Peter Phillips, the son of HRH The Princess Royal and Captain Mark Phillips, and Ms Harriet Sperling, daughter of the late Mr Rupert Sanders and Mrs Mary Sanders of Gloucestershire, have today confirmed their official engagement.”
The statement added: “Both families were informed jointly of the announcement and were delighted with the wonderful news of their engagement.” It also said that “Their Majesties the King and Queen, the Prince and Princess of Wales have been informed of the announcement. No date has been officially set for the wedding.” That final sentence was accurate in August 2025 and is no longer current, since the couple married in June 2026.

What the public record does not establish

- Her personal views, public statements beyond the engagement announcement, or any direct interview.
- When the private relationship began. The earliest date available is a public sighting in June 2025.

For current coverage, use “wife” or “married to” when describing Sperling and Phillips. Phrasing such as “Who is Harriet Sperling?” and “Who is Peter Phillips’s wife?” matches the questions readers are most likely to be asking. The “fiancée” label belongs to the period between the August 2025 announcement and the June 2026 wedding.
