Jake from State Farm is a character in the insurer’s advertising, and the actor who has played him in the current campaign is Kevin Miles, who has also been credited as Kevin Mimms. Jake is not a State Farm employee. The original Jake was a real employee, Jake Stone, but the character that became a recurring ad figure in 2020 is a performed role.
Who plays Jake today
The current Jake is played by Kevin Miles. State Farm’s own announcement of the character’s return in 2020 named the actor as Kevin Mimms, writing that “Kevin Mimms, the actor portraying Jake, will be seen in more ads down the road.” Scripps News later identified the current actor as Kevin Miles, born Mimm. The two names refer to the same performer, and both appear in the sources that discuss his career.
The most recent dated source reviewed for this article is an NBC Sports interview listing from March 22, 2024. Advertising casts change, so check State Farm’s current commercials or its official channels if you need to confirm who is in the role on a specific date.
Kevin Miles’s background
According to Scripps News, Miles started in theater and had small acting appearances in Criminal Minds and S.W.A.T. before he won the Jake role at an audition in Los Angeles in 2020. The outlet describes the role as his major break. The same report is undated in the text available, so treat its details as a description of his career up to that point rather than a current profile.

Miles has discussed the role in interviews. In 2021, on the Dan Patrick Show, he explained why the character felt familiar to him:
“I come from a theater background anyway, so doing Jake, it’s so close to me. I’m not trying to play a caricature of anything, I’m just trying to make it where it’s me always talking to my best friend or my family member.”
He also presented the commercial work as a step in a longer career rather than an endpoint:

Two people named Jake
Because the original Jake was a real employee and the current one is an actor, the two are often confused. The table below separates them.

The 2020 return
State Farm brought Jake back in a new form on February 3, 2020, when the company announced the return and named the actor portraying the character. The return reintroduced Jake as a continuing advertising figure played by a performer, rather than as the employee who had appeared in the original spot.
The Right Kind of Magic campaign
On November 20, 2023, State Farm announced The Right Kind of Magic, a campaign built around Jake alongside celebrities and athletes including Jimmy Fallon, Ludacris, and Caitlin Clark. The company said it would run across broadcast, streaming, digital, social, audio, and other channels.

For scale, the same 2023 announcement reported that State Farm has over 19,200 agent offices, over 62,000 employees, and service to over 96 million policies and accounts. These are company-reported figures about the insurer’s operations. They do not measure Miles’s personal popularity or the reach of the campaign.

The sources reviewed do not establish Miles’s exact birth date or age, a complete filmography, his compensation, his net worth, or the number of commercials he has appeared in. No audience or popularity figure for him was verified. Some articles online publish these numbers, but they are not supported by the sources cited here, so this article leaves them out rather than repeat unattributed estimates.

If you are looking for a reliable starting point, the State Farm announcements from 2020 and 2023 are the primary sources for the advertising history, and the Scripps News report is the most detailed biographical account available in the material reviewed.
