The Chicago Cubs’ 2020 media guide lists Rizzo as married to Emily, and MLB.com identifies her as Emily Vakos in its coverage of their 2018 wedding. The couple got engaged in June 2017 and married in South Florida that December. Public information about Vakos herself is limited, so the sections below separate what is documented from what is not.
How the couple got engaged
Rizzo announced his engagement to Vakos in June 2017. In a CBS Chicago report by Bruce Levine published June 2, 2017, he described the proposal and what it meant to him:
- On the engagement: “It’s something in life that you want to be able to find someone to spend the rest of your life with. I am lucky enough to have that now.”
- On the proposal: “We were on a boat on Lake Michigan,” and “We had some fireworks go off. It was great. She was totally surprised.”
The December 2018 wedding
MLB.com reported on December 30, 2018 that Rizzo and Emily Vakos married that weekend, and ran a photo from their wedding weekend. In the post quoted in that coverage, Rizzo thanked “my amazing wife Emily” and wished readers a happy new year. A CBS Chicago report dated December 31, 2018, titled “Anthony Rizzo Gets Married In Florida,” places the ceremony in South Florida. The reporting used for this article does not name a specific venue, so none is given here.

That report is a brief update rather than a profile of Vakos, and it adds no further biographical detail about her.

What is and is not established about Emily Vakos
Most of what can be confirmed about Vakos comes from coverage of her husband. The following points are supported by the sources cited above:
- Her name is Emily Vakos, and she is Rizzo’s wife according to the Cubs’ 2020 media guide and MLB.com.
- A 2024 Arcada Theatre interview with Ron Onesti describes her as a Cubs intern when she married Rizzo. That is secondary reporting, so it is attributed here rather than treated as an established employment record.
