They took over the role in 2003 and played Emma for the rest of the series. The most recent reporting available describes their post-Friends acting work through 2019, and it does not establish what they do today.
Who played Emma on Friends
Emma was played by two actresses over the show’s run. The sisters are identical twins, and Entertainment Tonight reported in a March 22, 2019 story that they took over the role in 2003. Their first appearance was in season 9 and their final appearance was in season 10, which is why many viewers remember Emma as a single character who simply grew up on screen.
Their work after Friends
Acting did not end with the series. The reporting that exists covers these later credits:
| Year | Work | Source and what it establishes |
|---|---|---|
| 2006 | Novel Romance (film), playing a one-year-old girl named Emma | Entertainment Tonight, March 22, 2019 |
| Not dated in reporting | Pilot episode of Life, plus several short films | ABC News, February 4, 2015, and Entertainment Tonight, March 22, 2019. The reporting does not give exact dates for these roles. |
| 2019 | Us (film), playing Becca and Lindsey, the twin daughters of Kitty Tyler | Entertainment Tonight, March 22, 2019. The film also contains an Easter egg referencing their Friends role. |
Us is the most recent screen credit confirmed in the reporting. It is the role most often cited when the sisters are discussed as adults.

A 2022 TMZ article, updated September 8, 2022, described the sisters as UCLA students. That is a description from the time of publication. It does not confirm current enrollment, graduation, or where either sister lives. A 2015 Bustle interview described acting as something they pursued occasionally alongside school and other interests. That interview reflects their priorities in 2015, not now.
Noelle Sheldon described the experience of growing up with the role in that 2015 interview: “I grew up knowing that I was on Friends, but I didn’t realize the extent of it until I was 10.” (Bustle, February 5, 2015)

What cannot be confirmed
The available reporting does not establish the sisters’ current occupations, their current city of residence, or whether either is still acting. Older articles should not be used to fill those gaps. Claims that they still live in Los Angeles, have left acting, or are working on a particular project do not appear in any reporting located for this topic.
How to check for newer information
- Search each sister’s full name alongside the title of a new project, not the Friends role alone, since most recent coverage links them to their Friends history.
- Check the credits on IMDb or a comparable industry database, which list roles by date and are updated by production teams rather than by articles about childhood roles.
- Look for interviews dated after 2022. Any interview published since then will give a more reliable picture of current work than the reporting summarized above.
Why the answer is two people, not one
Many lists of former child actors treat a role as belonging to one performer. In this case, the Emma role was shared by twins, so any reader looking for a single name will find only part of the story. Crediting both sisters, and dating each credit, is the most accurate way to describe what they have done on screen.
