Thor: Love and Thunder is placed after Ms. Marvel in the current reported MCU chronological viewing order, in the timeline’s 2025 section. That is a viewing-order placement, not an exact date established by the film’s dialogue.
Where it sits in the MCU viewing order
For a chronological MCU watch-through, place Thor: Love and Thunder after Ms. Marvel. GamesRadar+’s chronology guide, which says it draws on Marvel’s official timeline book and Marvel/Disney chronology resources, lists both titles in 2025, with Ms. Marvel first: GamesRadar+’s MCU timeline.

The film also follows Thor’s post-Avengers: Endgame journey with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Chris Hemsworth described the transition in a Fandango interview reported by ComicBook.com: “He went off on a journey of self-discovery with the Guardians of the Galaxy, and that’s kind of where we pick up.” ComicBook.com’s report of the interview provides that context; it does not set a precise calendar date.
Does the film establish an exact year or date?
No exact month or day is confirmed by the dialogue. Thor says eight years, seven months, and six days have passed since he last saw Jane. BGR’s 2022 calculation uses an assumed breakup date to estimate a possible range, so it is an inference rather than a canonical date stated in the film: BGR’s timeline analysis.

The 2025 label is therefore useful for ordering the story alongside other MCU entries, but the elapsed-time line alone cannot independently verify that year or determine a specific date.
Story chronology is different from release date
Disney lists Thor: Love and Thunder as released on July 8, 2022, with a runtime of 1 hour 59 minutes. Those are release and running-time details, not its in-universe place in the MCU: Disney’s film page.

How to place it in a watch-through
- Watch Avengers: Endgame before the later Thor story and his journey with the Guardians.
- In the current reported chronological order, watch Ms. Marvel immediately before Thor: Love and Thunder.
- Treat 2025 as the guide’s story-year placement, not as a date precisely proven by the film’s dialogue.
For readers tracing the broader chronology, Marvel announced The Marvel Cinematic Universe: An Official Timeline as a book intended to explain what happened, when, and where in the MCU: Marvel’s announcement.
