Star was Disney+’s general-entertainment hub in selected markets outside the United States. It launched in 2021, but it is no longer the current international brand everywhere: Disney now describes Hulu as its general-entertainment brand outside the U.S. The changeover date depended on the market.
What was Star on Disney+?
Star was a dedicated section within Disney+ that grouped general-entertainment films and series alongside the service’s other brands. Disney introduced it in selected international markets in February 2021, including Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Europe; Singapore launched Disney+ with Star on that date as well. It was part of Disney+, not a separate subscription service.
Disney said the hub drew on programming from Disney General Entertainment Content, FX Productions, 20th Century Studios, Searchlight Pictures and other studios. Its launch announcement named series including Grey’s Anatomy, 24, The X-Files, Lost and Family Guy. Those are historical launch examples, not a promise that the titles are currently available in any particular country.
Disney also announced more than 35 first-run series planned to premiere by the end of Star’s first year. That was a launch-era programming plan, not a count of today’s catalog. Disney’s February 2021 launch announcement gives the original context.

What happened to Star on Disney+?
Disney’s current service description identifies Hulu as the general-entertainment brand outside the United States. The transition from Star to Hulu was not simultaneous in every market. For example, Disney announced that Hulu would replace Star in Australia and New Zealand beginning October 9, 2025. The date for one market should not be assumed to apply everywhere.
For current branding and service details, see Disney+’s service page. Older references to Star may remain accurate as descriptions of the former hub, but they do not establish what the app is called or contains in a reader’s country now.

Does Star mean the same thing as Star+?
No. Star was a content brand integrated into Disney+. Disney’s 2021 announcement referred separately to Star+ as a service for Latin America. The names are related, but they did not refer to the same product.

There is no single answer for every viewer. Disney said title accessibility varied by region, and streaming catalogs can change. The old Star label or a launch-era title list is not a reliable guide to current availability. Check the Disney+ catalog in your country for a specific film or series. Because no country is specified here, a universal current title list, subscription price or plan description would be misleading.
