On March 22, 2026, actor Alan Ritchson and his neighbor Ronnie Taylor had a physical confrontation in Brentwood, Tennessee, after a dispute that began when Ritchson rode a motorcycle through the neighborhood. The first clip to circulate showed Ritchson punching Taylor but not what came before it. Later phone footage and police records, as reported by Nashville station WTVF, showed Taylor stepping in front of the motorcycle. Brentwood police concluded that Ritchson acted in self-defense, and neither man faces criminal charges.
What happened, in sequence
- The ride. On March 22, 2026, Ritchson rode a motorcycle through the neighborhood with his children. Taylor said he was concerned about the actor speeding and about neighborhood safety and motorcycle noise.
- The block. According to WTVF’s account of the police case file, Taylor stepped in front of the motorcycle. Ritchson braked hard and went over the handlebars head-first.
- The exchange. Words were exchanged. Ritchson then tried to leave, and WTVF reports that Taylor blocked his path again. The two men fought, and both were hurt. WTVF reports the encounter lasted about two and a half minutes before Ritchson rode away.
- The footage. Early circulating video showed the punches but not the events that preceded them. Later material, which WTVF describes as video recorded on Ritchson’s phone and Brentwood police body-camera footage obtained through records requests, supplied the missing lead-up.
- The outcome. Police reviewed the video and witness statements and closed the matter without criminal charges (see the outcome section below).
Why the first video told an incomplete story
The earliest clip began at the punches, so the first headlines framed the fight as Ritchson attacking a neighbor. Viewers who saw only that clip had no way to know that the motorcycle had been blocked or that Ritchson had already gone over the bike. The fuller footage, reported in April 2026, changed how the sequence reads, which is why the same incident was described in very different terms in its first days and later weeks.
When you read or watch a summary of this case, check which footage it draws on. A description that begins with the punches is based on the partial clip. One that begins with Taylor stepping in front of the motorcycle is drawing on the later phone and body-camera material.
What each man has said
These accounts conflict, and they should be read as attributed claims rather than established facts.
#1 Best Overall
- Ronnie Taylor told reporters that he pushed Ritchson twice because Ritchson was coming toward him on the motorcycle. He said he was worried about the noise and safety of the neighborhood.
- Alan Ritchson told officers that Taylor was the aggressor. When the reports were published, Ritchson and his representatives had not made a public comment, so there is no on-record statement from him about the incident in the reporting reviewed here.
The later footage, as described by WTVF and The Guardian, shows Taylor in front of the motorcycle and blocking Ritchson as he tried to leave. Taylor’s pushes are acknowledged in his own account; the footage descriptions are the basis for the sequence above, and they are not a statement by either man.
The police outcome
The Brentwood Police Department issued a statement, reproduced by The Guardian, that reads:
“After reviewing available evidence, including video footage and witness statements, authorities determined that no criminal charges will be pursued. Mr Ritchson’s actions were found to be in self-defense. Although a potential reckless endangerment charge was considered, Mr Ritchson declined to pursue charges. With the agreement of the District Attorney’s Office, the case is now closed, and no further action will be taken.”
The statement is issued by the department and does not name an individual spokesperson. The reporting reviewed does not indicate that any charge was filed against Taylor. The potential reckless-endangerment charge against him was considered, and Ritchson chose not to pursue it. The case closed with the Williamson County District Attorney’s Office’s agreement.

What is established and what is not
- Established by police and reporting: the date, the location, the self-defense finding, the absence of criminal charges, and the closure of the case.
- Attributed, not independently verified here: Taylor’s explanation for the pushes, Ritchson’s account to officers, and the details of the lead-up as described in WTVF’s case-file reporting.
- Not established in the reporting reviewed: any public statement from Ritchson about the incident, and any ongoing civil dispute between the two men.
Because the reports are based on police records and video, later coverage may add detail. This article reflects reporting available as of its publication date.
