As of October 8, 2026, the published sources establish no premiere date and no complete, current cast list.
Where the season stands
HBO renewed the series for a fourth season on January 22, 2025. In an HBO and Warner Bros. Discovery production announcement dated April 15, 2026, the companies said filming had begun on the French Riviera.
Timing matters for the festival setting. Associated Press reporter Jake Coyle, writing on May 15, 2026, said production had started along the Riviera but had not yet materialized in Cannes four days into that year’s festival. The reporting therefore does not describe the show filming live at the festival. Treat the festival as the story’s backdrop, not as a documented shoot.
The premise
The official logline, from the April 15, 2026 announcement, reads: “The fourth season will follow a new group of White Lotus hotel guests and employees over the span of a week, taking place during the Cannes Film Festival.”

That is the extent of the confirmed premise. The season’s mystery, its characters’ arcs and any returning storylines are not described in the announcement or in the reporting reviewed for this article, so anything beyond the logline would be speculation.
Filming locations
AP identified two hotels as production locations. Both are real properties that the series renames within its fiction.
Rank #2
| Real property | Location | Name in the series (per AP) | Role reported by AP |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hôtel Martinez | Cannes | White Lotus Cannes | Central location |
| Airelles Château de la Messardière | Saint-Tropez | White Lotus du Cap | Additional location |
The season’s geography therefore spans both Cannes and Saint-Tropez. The reporting does not say how public access to these properties is handled during production, and nothing reviewed here indicates that visitors can enter filming areas.
Why Cannes
Producer David Bernad told AP that the setting grew out of a 2021 trip to Cannes he took with Mike White. Bernad described a dinner where the group had “a really specific experience with a waiter and a maître d’, and it was the stereotype. It was a very funny moment.” He said that experience “suddenly unlocked what the show is and the dynamics of the show.”

Release date: not yet established
No premiere date appears in the production announcement, the cast announcement or the AP report. Published guesses about a release window are not confirmed by HBO or Warner Bros. Discovery in these sources, so this article does not provide one. The most reliable place to watch for an official date is HBO’s own announcements.
Until then, the verified picture is a renewed series, a production announced as underway on the French Riviera in April 2026, a week-long story set during the Cannes Film Festival, two real hotels serving as fictional White Lotus properties, and a partial cast list dated March 2026.
