How did Rogers’s acting career develop?
Before and during her marriage to Cruise
Rogers was building an acting career before the marriage ended. After moving to Los Angeles following her 1980 divorce from her first husband, she studied acting and began working in television. She recalled that her first job was playing Officer Renko’s love interest on Hill Street Blues, according to her 1991 Los Angeles Times interview.

Her first starring film role was in Ridley Scott’s Someone to Watch Over Me (1987). In 1991, she appeared in The Rapture, a role she later described as her most challenging and deepest work. Speaking to the Los Angeles Times that year, Rogers assessed the effect of her marriage on her career: “Being married to Tom Cruise didn’t hurt my career, but it certainly didn’t help it.” That is her perspective at the time, not proof that the marriage caused a particular career outcome.
Later television work
Rogers kept acting for decades. In a 2022 interview with Smashing Interviews Magazine, she discussed playing Honey Chandler in Bosch and returning to the role in Bosch: Legacy. She described how Chandler’s story changed after the character survived an attempted assassination. The interview documents her work and comments at that time; it does not establish what projects she is working on in 2026.

What has Rogers said about being known as Cruise’s ex-wife?
Rogers has made clear that she does not want the marriage to define her public story. Asked in 2022 whether she tired of questions about Cruise, she replied: “Uh, yeah (laughs). That was so many years ago. I mean, my oldest child is 27. Like, hello!” The remark came in an interview focused on Bosch: Legacy and her acting career.
