Wendy Moniz plays Governor Lynelle Perry in Yellowstone. In a January 2025 conversation with The Official Yellowstone Podcast, she described how she builds a character, starting with research into who the person is and what the job demands, and then turning to physical details such as how the person carries and presents themselves. Her published remarks about the show’s filming locations are more limited, and come from an earlier 2020 interview.
Who Moniz plays on Yellowstone
Moniz portrays Governor Lynelle Perry, a political figure in the series. The Official Yellowstone Podcast’s episode listing for its January 23, 2025 release, carried on Apple Podcasts, identifies her by that role and describes the conversation as covering behind-the-scenes material and her creative process.
How she builds a role
The most substantive account of Moniz’s working method comes from the podcast’s episode. The iHeart version of the episode includes an automatically generated transcript, and that transcript is not guaranteed to be accurate, so the summary below paraphrases her meaning rather than quoting the wording directly.
Her starting point is research. She wants to understand who the character is, and when the character’s occupation is highly specific, she looks closely at what that occupation means and what it would take to be that kind of person. Only after that does she move to the physical side of the role.
#1 Best Overall
Step one: research the person
For Moniz, the first question is who this person is. The answer shapes everything that follows, from attitude to decision-making. Writers and readers often assume an actor begins with mannerisms; her account puts character before behavior.
Step two: understand the job
When a role depends on a specific profession, she treats that profession as a working context rather than a label. Knowing what the job asks of a person, day to day, gives the performance a basis that is not just attitude on screen. A political role such as Perry’s makes this especially relevant, because public office carries its own routines, pressures and forms of composure.
Rank #2
Step three: physical choices
Last, she considers how the character stands and moves. Posture is a practical way to make a character’s history visible without dialogue. The transcript excerpt does not describe specific exercises or on-set adjustments, so anything beyond this general principle would go past what the source supports.
What she has said about Montana and Utah
In a 2020 interview with Monsters & Critics, Moniz said she was from Virginia and had not been to Montana or Utah before working on the show. She also said that Utah was where the studio work took place, even though the series is set in Montana.

That is a useful picture of how the production’s world looked from the outside for a performer who had not spent time in either state. It is a statement about her own experience in 2020, not a list of filming locations. The interview does not establish which scenes were shot where, and it does not describe other seasons, so readers should not read it as a complete location guide.
What the available accounts do not cover
The published material on Moniz’s work is selective. It gives her approach to character and a limited note about locations. It does not provide a production diary, shooting schedules, equipment details, set anecdotes or a full breakdown of how her scenes were made. If you are looking for those, the available interviews will not supply them.
Where to watch
Availability of Yellowstone changes by country and by streaming service. Check a current listing for your region before you assume the series is available where you live, since the material reviewed for this piece does not confirm which platforms carry the show at any given time.
