WIRED’s check of Friday, January 30, 2026 listings found two Melania showings that appeared sold out on the documentary’s general-release day: a 12:55 p.m. screening at AMC CLASSIC Indian River 24 in Vero Beach, Florida, and a 1 p.m. screening at AMC Independence Commons 20 in Independence, Missouri. Both were matinees before 3 p.m. Those two are the sold-out screenings found within the listings WIRED reviewed, not a count of every sold-out screening in the United States.
The two sold-out screenings
The table below lists the two showings WIRED reported, using the theater, location, and local start time from its January 29, 2026 article.
| Theater | Location | Start time (local) | Listing status in WIRED’s check | Discount WIRED observed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AMC CLASSIC Indian River 24 | Vero Beach, Florida | 12:55 p.m. | Appeared sold out | Apparent 20 percent discount on AMC’s website |
| AMC Independence Commons 20 | Independence, Missouri | 1 p.m. | Appeared sold out | Apparent 20 percent discount on AMC’s website |
WIRED describes the 20 percent price reduction as standard for AMC showtimes before 4 p.m. Both observations describe what reporters saw on the listings. They do not establish final pricing at the box office.
How the check was built
WIRED’s reporter, Maddy Varner, reviewed 1,398 Melania showtimes listed on Fandango for Friday, January 30, 2026. Those showtimes came from 329 theaters near 64 of the 100 U.S. cities on a “Best US Cities to See a Movie” ranking created by BetMGM. WIRED states that BetMGM had no affiliation with Amazon MGM Studios. The newsroom could not complete the review of all 100 cities because of technical issues.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That method has several built-in limits:
- One ticketing platform. Only Fandango listings were checked, so theaters that sell tickets through other systems may not appear.
- Seat selection varies. Some theaters do not offer advance seat selection, so a sold-out status could not appear for them at all.
- A moving target. Tickets can be bought until showtime, so the count reflects the moment the listings were checked.
Read as a snapshot, the finding is precise: at the time WIRED looked, two screenings in its sample showed no seats left. It is not a total of sales, a measure of attendance, or a forecast for the rest of the run.
What “sold out” means in this report
A sold-out label on a seat map means no seats were available for purchase at that moment. It does not show how many tickets were sold, how many people attended, or whether the purchases were individual or bulk. WIRED does not explain why these two screenings sold out, and the report does not support a single cause. Social-media comments about the film’s audience were not verified as evidence of attendance or bulk buying, and this article does not treat them that way.

A showtime that reopened
A third Florida showtime briefly appeared sold out during WIRED’s check. When the reporters checked again, two front-row seats had become available. That reversal is the clearest example of why these listings should be read as a point-in-time picture. WIRED’s January 30, 2026 update also noted that all seats for the 10:15 p.m. Friday screening at AMC Port Chester remained available as of Thursday afternoon.

The ticket promotion
WIRED quotes a Truth Social post by Donald Trump that reads: “Get your tickets today – Selling out, FAST!” That is a promotional statement. The report does not connect the post to the two sold-out screenings, and the listings do not show what drove demand at either theater.
