Four regional-language remakes of Queen were introduced with teasers released together on 21 December 2018: Tamil’s Paris Paris, Telugu’s That is Mahalakshmi, Malayalam’s Zam Zam and Kannada’s Butterfly. The films share the source movie’s solo-honeymoon premise, but feature different lead performers and directors.
The four remakes at a glance
| Film | Language | Lead performer | Director |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paris Paris | Tamil | Kajal Aggarwal | Ramesh Aravind |
| That is Mahalakshmi | Telugu | Tamannaah Bhatia | Prashanth Varma |
| Zam Zam | Malayalam | Manjima Mohan | Neelakanta |
| Butterfly | Kannada | Parul Yadav | Ramesh Aravind |
The language and cast pairings above follow Scroll’s report and are consistent with NDTV’s headline and opening list. NDTV’s article later reverses the Tamil and Telugu labels in one passage; that conflicting passage is not used here.
What connects the stories
All four films remake Queen (2014), the Hindi film starring Kangana Ranaut. In the premise described for Paris Paris, a young woman travels alone to Paris for her honeymoon after her fiancé calls off their wedding. The four teasers presented adaptations of that central setup in different regional-language productions.
Production and release reporting in 2018
Scroll reported that Amit Trivedi composed the soundtracks for the original film and all four remakes, and that Manu Kumar’s Mediente Films produced the adaptations. The films were directed by Ramesh Aravind (Paris Paris and Butterfly), Prashanth Varma (That is Mahalakshmi) and Neelakanta (Zam Zam).

At the time of the teaser announcement, Scroll said release dates had not been announced. NDTV reported an expectation that the films would arrive across five states in February 2019. Those were December 2018 reports, not confirmation that the releases took place as expected. The two reports do not establish the films’ eventual theatrical distribution or their current streaming availability.
