WAVES 2025, India’s first World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit, was scheduled for May 1–4 in Mumbai and opened on May 1 with an inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting launched the event to connect India’s media and entertainment sector with global participants. It is now a past event, not an upcoming opportunity to register or attend.
What was WAVES 2025?
WAVES stands for World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit. The first edition was a Government of India initiative under the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, organized by the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC). The Ministry framed it as a platform for connecting India’s media and entertainment sector with international markets and stakeholders, and for discussing the sector’s industries, innovation, and opportunities. The Ministry’s WAVES overview describes that purpose and scope.
When and where did the summit take place?
The Ministry’s media delegate announcement set the dates as May 1–4, 2025, in Mumbai. The Ministry’s April 28 pre-event release names the venue as Jio Convention Centre; the Prime Minister’s Office’s inauguration report calls it Jio World Centre, while a National e-Governance Division event record uses Jio World Convention Centre. Those are the venue wordings used by the respective official sources. The media announcement introduced the dates, and the Prime Minister’s Office report records the May 1 inauguration.
Who was WAVES for?
The summit brought together participants from across media and entertainment. The Ministry’s media delegate announcement specifically invited journalists, photographers, content creators, and other media professionals, reflecting an audience that included both industry participants and people who report on or make media. The invitation was for the 2025 event; it does not indicate that registration remains open.

- Digital media and advertising
- Animation, visual effects (VFX), gaming, and augmented, virtual, and extended reality (AR/VR/XR)
- Music and live events
The official schedule organized sessions into plenaries, breakouts, master classes, and cultural events. Plenaries offered a shared forum for broad discussions; breakouts allowed for more focused sessions; master classes centered on instruction; and cultural programming added performances and related events. The agenda covered May 1–4 and listed specific panels and speakers for individual sessions, rather than treating any one panel as representative of the entire summit. The official WAVES schedule contains the programme details.

What scale and outcomes did official sources report?
Government publications gave different figures at different stages and in different contexts. They should be read as attributed official reports, not as a single independently audited attendance tally.
- Before the event: In an April 28, 2025 release, the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting said the summit would span 15,000 square metres and include more than 100 exhibitors. It named Netflix, Amazon, Google, Meta, Sony, Reliance, Adobe, and Tata among participating companies. The Ministry’s pre-event release supplies those figures and names.
- At inauguration: The Prime Minister’s Office reported participation from over 90 countries, more than 10,000 delegates, 1,000 creators, 300-plus companies, and 350-plus startups. These are the figures in its May 1, 2025 inauguration account. Read the Prime Minister’s Office account.
- In the post-event record: The National e-Governance Division reported that WAVES Bazaar business deals exceeded ₹1,300 crore and that representatives of 77 countries adopted the WAVES declaration at the Global Media Dialogue. The government event record reports these outcomes along with more than 90 participating countries and over 10,000 delegates.
What did the inauguration signify?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the summit’s ambition in a statement reproduced in the Prime Minister’s Office report: “WAVES is not merely an acronym but a wave representing culture, creativity, and universal connectivity”. The event’s stated purpose and broad programme positioned it as a meeting point for India’s media and entertainment industries and international participants.
