That is a thought experiment, not the premise of a confirmed DC role-swap story.
What “swapping roles” would actually change
The interesting change would not be a costume exchange. It would be a change in what each character is expected to do and what the public thinks they are doing. Bruce would lose the presumed legitimacy of Batman’s mission and face the distrust that follows an outlaw. Selina would be asked to protect people while accepting limits and accountability she has not necessarily chosen for herself.

DC describes Selina as a criminal and a Gotham City Robin Hood: she uses unlawful skills to help people, and the publisher characterizes her as a complex antihero. That contradiction makes her more than a simple villain, but it also means a protector acting in her name would have to earn trust rather than assume it. DC’s Batman Arkham: Catwoman collects selected stories featuring her.
What Bruce would face in Selina’s position
Working without the presumption of public trust
As Batman, Bruce is associated with a mission to protect Gotham. In Selina’s outlaw position, even a good deed could be read as a cover for theft or self-interest. He would have to reckon with the fact that people may judge his methods and reputation before they judge his intentions.

Choosing whether to break the law for a perceived good
Selina’s Robin Hood aspect raises a difficult question for Bruce: would he bend the law when he believed the outcome helped someone, or hold to Batman’s restraint even when it limited what he could accomplish? Either choice carries a cost. Adopting her approach could make him more pragmatic, but it could also blur the boundaries he relies on; refusing it could leave him less able to help in situations where Selina would act.
Seeing Gotham from the outside
Living with Selina’s outsider status could make Bruce more aware of how suspicion shapes a person’s options. The thought experiment does not establish that he would become more empathetic or change his methods; it makes those possible consequences worth asking about.
What Selina would face in Batman’s position
Protecting people while accepting accountability
Taking Batman’s role would mean more than using his tools or taking his name. Selina would be responsible for protecting people, and her choices would invite scrutiny. Would she accept Batman’s restraint and accountability, or adapt the role to her own judgment? Her antihero identity makes that tension central rather than incidental.
Keeping independence while taking on a public duty
Selina’s experience outside the law might help her recognize problems that a more conventional guardian misses. It could also make the obligations of Batman’s role feel restrictive. The question is not whether she could simply become Bruce, but whether she could protect Gotham without losing the independence that defines her.

Why this is a hypothetical, not a published swap plot
DC’s official descriptions establish a complicated relationship between Bruce and Selina, but they do not establish a literal exchange of their roles. The collected Batman/Catwoman graphic novel is described as a story spanning the characters’ past, present, and future. Its collection page says it gathers the twelve-issue series and related material, including Batman Annual #2, Catwoman 80th Anniversary 100-Page Super Spectacular #1, and Detective Comics #1027.
One timeline in Batman/Catwoman #1 begins after Bruce Wayne dies following a long marriage, leaving Selina free to settle an old score. That is the premise of the future timeline, not evidence that the characters exchange identities or duties. DC’s issue synopsis describes that setup.

Where to read more about their dynamic
Batman/Catwoman is a relationship-focused companion read, not a confirmed answer to the role-swap question. DC lists the collected edition as a 424-page, Mature-rated volume, on sale December 20, 2022, with a listed U.S. price of $39.99; price and availability can change. DC Universe Infinite also lists the series digitally, though catalog access can vary by region and change over time.
For a Selina-centered noir alternative, DC describes Catwoman: When in Rome as a six-part series following her trip to Italy, with Batman guest-starring. It offers another way to explore her character, but it is not a role-swap story. See DC’s issue listing.
