Venom: The Last Dance is most entertaining when it stops trying to save the world and lets Eddie Brock and Venom bicker, improvise and share Tom Hardy’s eccentric comic energy. Its knowingly silly partnership gives the trilogy’s final film its personality; the sprawling threat and chase machinery keep interrupting it.
Hardy and Venom are the film’s best reason to stay
Tom Hardy returns as Eddie Brock, with Kelly Marcel directing and writing the screenplay from a story by Hardy and Marcel. Sony positions the film as the final entry in the Venom trilogy, and its central hook is still the uneasy partnership between a man and the alien symbiote living inside him.
That relationship is where the movie’s comedy has its clearest source. Hardy’s performance plays Eddie’s exasperation against Venom’s unruly impulses, turning the pair’s mismatched priorities into a comic double act. The film’s camp is not a subtle garnish; it is the distinctive flavor that separates these characters from the solemnity of a conventional superhero crisis.
The chase and world-ending stakes crowd the double act
Sony’s synopsis sets up Eddie and Venom as hunted by both of their worlds and pushed toward a decision that will end their partnership. The Associated Press review describes a chase-driven story that includes Area 51, symbiotes seeking the codex and a larger danger to the pair’s bond. That gives the film movement and a clear escalation, but also makes the personal relationship compete with plot mechanics and spectacle.

- In Venom: The Last Dance, Tom Hardy returns as Venom, one of Marvel?s greatest and most complex characters, for the final film in the trilogy. Eddie and Venom are on the run. Hunted by both of their worlds and with the net closing in, the duo are forced into a devastating decision that will bring the curtains down on Venom and Eddie's last dance.
Jake Coyle, film critic for the Associated Press, argued that the balance was wrong: “I kept rooting for the surprisingly lifeless ‘The Last Dance’ to pull way back on its save-the-world plot (and its CGI) and lean more into its most potent effect: Hardy’s split-personality double act.” His two-star-out-of-four rating reflects a criticism of emphasis rather than a denial of the central appeal: the movie has a lively comic premise, but too often subordinates it to a large-scale threat.
The Los Angeles Times likewise foregrounds the odd appeal of the franchise’s comic-book partnership while describing this installment as a chase movie. That combination explains both the fun and the frustration. Pursuit gives Eddie and Venom reasons to move, but the more the story widens into urgent mythology and effects-heavy action, the less room it leaves for their strange, funny dynamic to breathe.

Does the cheesiness make the tone work?
The knowingly goofy Eddie-and-Venom material is most coherent when the film treats their incompatibility as the point. It becomes less effective when the same story asks that comic friction to carry grave, world-threatening stakes without giving the relationship enough space to make the transition feel earned. The camp can make action entertaining, but it cannot by itself make every escalation feel meaningful.
Rotten Tomatoes’ film-page consensus similarly describes Hardy as charismatic while saying the film buckles under its tonal ambitions. That is a critical judgment, not a guarantee of how every viewer will respond; the page’s score and review count can change over time. Viewers drawn to the odd-couple comedy may find enough personality to enjoy, while those wanting a tightly focused thriller may find the tonal shifts and busy plot a distraction.

How well does it conclude the trilogy?
Sony calls The Last Dance the trilogy’s final film, and the premise of a decision that could end Eddie and Venom’s partnership gives the story an apparent emotional endpoint. Yet a studio’s trilogy framing does not establish that the characters or franchise can never return. As a closing chapter, the film’s strongest claim is its attention to what has made this pairing distinctive; its weaker one is the amount of plot machinery competing with that relationship.
The Associated Press lists the runtime as 110 minutes (1 hour 50 minutes); Rotten Tomatoes lists 1 hour 49 minutes, a rounding-level difference. In the United States, the AP reports a PG-13 rating for intense sequences of violence and action, bloody images and strong language.

- In Venom: The Last Dance, the final film in the trilogy, Eddie and Venom are on the run. Verdict
Venom: The Last Dance does lean into the franchise’s cheesiness, and that choice pays off most when Hardy’s comic double act takes center stage. But the film’s chase structure, CGI and save-the-world stakes repeatedly pull focus from the partnership that gives it life. It offers a recognizable send-off to the trilogy, though a more intimate story might have made the goodbye land harder.
