Trish Stratus and Lita’s WWE rivalry was more than a run of grudge matches: it grew out of opposing alliances, paused when they joined forces, and eventually turned on a series of Women’s Championship bouts. Its defining moments came in three different forms—a landmark Raw title change in 2004, an injury-shadowed rematch in 2005, and Trish’s hometown retirement match in 2006.
10 things fans forget about Trish Stratus vs. Lita
-
Trish arrived as a manager
Trish entered WWE in March 2000 as a manager, not as an established wrestler. WWE’s profile describes her managing Test, Albert and Val Venis. Her on-screen conflict with Lita took shape through opposing alignments: Trish with Test and Albert, Lita with the Hardy Boyz.
-
They represented WWE together
Their rivalry did not prevent every alliance. WWE says they put their differences aside to represent the company at InVasion in July 2001. That brief common cause is a useful reminder that their story was shaped by changing sides, not just by a permanent feud.
-
The feud had breaks
It is misleading to picture six uninterrupted years of singles matches. WWE’s 2006 Unforgiven preview describes them as friends as well as enemies, while its profile characterizes the rivalry as lasting years. Their relationship shifted with the stories around them; the most concentrated championship chapter came later.

Trish had a learning curve—and a training chapter
In a 2004 interview, Trish recalled arriving with “some very rudimentary training and some basic knowledge.” She also credited Fit Finlay’s work with the women’s roster as important to her development. Trish described an ankle injury in 2001 and her October return as a turning point, as WWE was putting more focus on the women’s division. Her progression from manager to champion was part of the story behind the rivalry, not a detail separate from it.
-
The June 2004 title win was a four-way
Trish won her fifth Women’s Championship at Bad Blood in June 2004 in a match against Lita, Gail Kim and Victoria. It was not a singles victory over Lita. The distinction matters because the next major title meeting between them—a singles match on Raw—was the one that changed the feud’s place in WWE history.

Lita ended Trish’s 176-day reign on Raw
On December 6, 2004, Lita defeated Trish for the Women’s Championship in a Raw main event. WWE’s retrospective says Lita countered Stratusfaction, hit a reverse Twist of Fate, then landed a moonsault to end Trish’s 176-day reign. WWE calls it the first time the Divas main-evented Raw; that historical first is WWE’s characterization.
-
The title story included personal storyline insults
The build to the December 2004 match was not only about the championship. WWE’s retrospective notes that Trish mocked Lita’s pregnancy and her relationship with Kane as part of the on-screen angle. Those were storyline elements, not claims about the performers’ real lives.

Trish won the rematch after Lita tore her ACL
At New Year’s Revolution in January 2005, Trish defeated Lita to regain the Women’s Championship and claim her sixth reign. WWE’s 2006 preview says Lita tore her ACL during the bout. The injury changed the stakes of the rematch: this was a title reversal with a serious consequence for Lita, not simply another chapter in a back-and-forth contest.
-
Their next one-on-one match was the retirement showdown
After the January 2005 rematch, their next singles meeting came at Unforgiven in 2006. WWE presented it as the final chapter of their rivalry, and Trish’s profile records that she beat Lita to win the championship in her final match of that WWE run.
