Trista Sutter said she was safe, healthy and still in love with Ryan after his May 2024 posts about missing her sparked concern and speculation about their marriage. Her original statement described a personal-growth opportunity but did not initially explain where she had gone. In November 2024, E! News later reported that she had been filming season three of Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test.
Why Ryan Sutter’s posts raised questions
Trista and Ryan Sutter met on the first season of The Bachelorette and married in 2003. In May 2024, while Trista was away, Ryan shared messages about missing her. One post, quoted by Global News, said: “I can think of only a handful of days I have not, at minimum, spoken to this incredible woman.” He also wrote: “She is the love of my life and my best friend. I cannot imagine loving her any more or any more fondly. But I guess we’re gonna find out…. I miss her already.”

The unusual wording prompted readers to wonder whether Trista was safe and whether the couple had separated. Those reactions were speculation, not confirmation of a breakup.
What Trista said in her May 25 response
On May 25, Trista addressed the concern with humor before reassuring followers: “In all seriousness, for those concerned, I’m safe and sound, happy and healthy, in love and grateful.”

She described her absence as a chance for “perspective and personal growth” and said she chose to take it with her family’s and friends’ support. She also said Ryan’s posts were messages of love intended to reach her during her travels—not an announcement that their relationship had ended.
Trista explained that the couple treated Instagram “like a digital diary,” and that their personal posts had reached a much larger audience than they expected. She said the children’s end-of-school-year needs and her usual responsibilities at home were in capable hands.

What was known about her absence at the time
Trista’s May statement did not identify her destination or explain every detail of the trip. She indicated that she would share more in time. Global News reported that she and her family were vacationing in Mexico after reuniting, but the initial post itself kept the reason for her absence private.

In a November 16, 2024 report, E! News connected Trista’s absence to filming season three of Fox’s Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test. That was a later reported explanation; it was not information she disclosed in her May 25 post.

What the posts do—and do not—establish
- Trista’s May 25 statement: She said she was safe and healthy, described herself as in love and grateful, and framed the time away as an opportunity for personal growth.
- Ryan’s posts: Their wording led to public concern, but neither the posts nor the speculation around them established that the couple had split.
