On May 16, 2025, Donald Trump posted separate attacks on Taylor Swift and Bruce Springsteen. He said Swift was no longer “HOT” after his earlier declaration that he hated her, and called Springsteen “Highly Overrated” after the musician criticized the Trump administration at a concert in Manchester, England.
What Trump said about Taylor Swift
Trump’s May 16 Truth Social post asked: “Has anyone noticed that, since I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,’ she’s no longer ‘HOT?’” The remark referred to his September 2024 post, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” CBS News reported that Trump made the Swift post less than an hour before his remarks about Springsteen.

Trump’s comment about Swift’s appeal was his own assertion, not a measured finding. The reporting does not establish that her popularity declined or that his remarks caused any change.
Why Swift had endorsed Kamala Harris
In September 2024, Swift endorsed Kamala Harris after the presidential debate. Her statement followed Trump’s sharing of images that falsely suggested Swift supported him. Swift also raised concerns about AI-generated misinformation in explaining her decision. CBS News and The Washington Post reported on the endorsement and its context.

What prompted Trump’s attack on Bruce Springsteen
Springsteen had criticized the Trump administration at a concert in Manchester, England, in May 2025. ABC News quoted him describing the administration as “corrupt, incompetent and treasonous,” and saying the America he loved was “currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent and treasonous administration.” ABC News reported the remarks.
On May 16, Trump responded in a separate Truth Social post. He wrote: “I see that Highly Overrated Bruce Springsteen goes to a Foreign Country to speak badly about the President of the United States.” Trump also called Springsteen “not a talented guy” and said he “ought to KEEP HIS MOUTH SHUT” until he returned to the country. An independent archive records the post at 10:07 a.m. EDT and links to the original Truth Social post: the archived post.

How the two exchanges differ
| Artist | Context | Trump’s May 16 remark |
|---|---|---|
| Taylor Swift | Her 2024 endorsement of Kamala Harris came after Trump shared images falsely implying her support for him. | He said she was no longer “HOT,” referring to his earlier “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” post. |
| Bruce Springsteen | He had criticized the Trump administration at a concert in Manchester. | Trump called him “Highly Overrated,” questioned his talent and told him to keep quiet until returning to the United States. |
The posts targeted two artists for different reasons: Trump’s Swift remark revisited their 2024 political clash, while his Springsteen attack followed the musician’s criticism of the administration abroad. Coverage described them as separate posts, not one joint statement.
