Yes. On December 15, 2025, the day after Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead at their Los Angeles home, President Donald Trump posted a message linking Reiner’s opposition to him to what Trump called “TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME.” The post offered no evidence that Reiner’s political views had anything to do with the deaths, according to the Associated Press. That was Trump’s unsupported implication, not an investigative finding.
What Trump’s post said
The Associated Press reproduced Trump’s statement in a report published December 15, 2025. He wrote: “Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME.”

The wording connected Reiner’s political opposition to Trump with the couple’s deaths. AP reported that Trump provided no evidence for that connection. The post should therefore be understood as a political accusation, not an explanation established by investigators. Associated Press report on Trump’s post.

Later court developments
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced on August 12, 2026, that a grand jury indictment charging Nick Reiner with his parents’ murders had been unsealed. An indictment is an accusation, not proof of guilt. The office states that a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. District Attorney’s Office announcement of the indictment.
On September 15, 2026, the District Attorney’s Office announced prosecutors would not seek the death penalty. That is a decision about the prosecution’s approach to sentencing; it does not resolve the charges or establish guilt. District Attorney’s Office announcement on the death penalty.
