Toy Story 5 opened in US theaters on June 19, 2026, and Disney says it began streaming on Disney+ on September 23, 2026. Its official hook is “Toy meets Tech”: Woody, Buzz and the gang face a new challenge to their place in Bonnie’s life when they encounter Lilypad, a frog-shaped tablet. The first-look images show the characters and the new device, but do not reveal the complete plot or ending.
When did Toy Story 5 come out?
Toy Story 5 opened in US theaters on June 19, 2026, according to Disney’s official film page. The film is already released, rather than an upcoming theatrical title.
Disney says the movie has streamed on Disney+ since September 23, 2026. That is Disney’s stated availability date; streaming catalogs can vary by territory, so viewers should check their local Disney+ listing. Disney+ announcement and Disney UK’s release give the date.
What is Toy Story 5 about?
Disney and Pixar describe the story as “Toy meets Tech.” The toys’ jobs are challenged when Bonnie gets a new tablet, Lilypad, whose own ideas about what is best for her put it at odds with the toys’ familiar role in her life. The official premise presents a conflict over children’s attention and play; it does not establish that the film condemns technology in general.

When Sheriff Jessie and Bullseye go missing, Buzz helps restore order in Bonnie’s room. That is the supported story setup—not a scene-by-scene account or an explanation of how the conflict ends. Pixar’s film and character page describes the setup.

What does the first look reveal?
Disney’s promotional page includes images captioned with Woody and Buzz looking at Lilypad, as well as Jessie, Bullseye, Lilypad and other characters. They confirm that the studio has shown the returning toys alongside the tablet character, but images alone do not establish motivations, the full sequence of events or the ending. View Disney’s official film page for the promotional images.
Disney’s promotional material also mentions 50 commemorative Buzz Lightyear action figures stuck in toy mode, searching for Star Command and potentially causing problems. That is a detail Disney has highlighted; it should not be treated as a complete explanation of the film’s plot.
