The Season 7 preview for The Rookie that ran in January 2025 teases a serial killer hunt in Episode 4, “Darkness Falling,” and a question mark over prospective rookie Seth. Here is what the preview reported, when it aired, and what it does and does not establish about the episode itself.
What the preview says happens in Episode 4
Episode 4 of Season 7 is titled “Darkness Falling.” According to Collider’s preview, published January 22, 2025 and written by Denis Kimathi, the episode’s promo introduces a serial killer and shows the department racing to catch him before he finds another victim. The same preview says Lucy suspects that prospective rookie Seth is hiding something.

How much of this is confirmed
The January 2025 preview is the main evidence for these details. IMDb News republished the same Collider piece under the same headline and date, so the two are not independent confirmations. The preview describes the promo and setup; it does not establish every scene in the finished episode, and the serial killer’s identity, the outcome of the hunt, and the resolution of the Seth storyline are not covered here.
Viewing information: treat it as dated
The broadcast and streaming details describe January 2025 only. Next-day Hulu availability was reported at the time of publication. It is not a current catalog check, and it does not indicate whether the episode is available in any particular country today. For a 2026 viewing decision, confirm the episode’s current availability directly on ABC’s schedule or on Hulu in your region before relying on it.

How to read a preview like this
- Promos and previews describe setup, not finished storylines. A serial-killer premise in a preview can change or resolve in ways the teaser does not show.
- Scheduling dates from a preview are historical. Check the broadcaster’s current listing before assuming any date still applies.
- Coverage that republishes a preview adds reach, not verification. Trace claims back to the original reporting when you can.
If you are looking for what the episode actually contains, the reliable source is the episode itself, along with recaps published after it aired.
