Spoilers for all eight episodes of Season 1. Lara and Camilla stop Charles Devereaux from using the Peril Stones, and Lara later takes the stones with Jonah to Kunlun to restore balance. That resolves the season’s main supernatural crisis. The closing scenes set up a different mystery: Sam calls Lara in distress, then Lara finds Sam’s home disturbed and Sam missing. The season does not reveal where Sam is or who took her.
How does the Peril Stones story end?
Charles Devereaux seeks the four Peril Stones as part of his revenge against the Light, the secret society he blames for his father’s death. As he gathers the stones, he becomes more dangerous; after uniting them, he undergoes a monstrous transformation.

Lara and Camilla confront Devereaux and break his hold on the stones. Interpol takes him into custody. But removing the stones from him does not, by itself, repair the disruption they have caused. Lara and Jonah take them to Kunlun, where Lara completes the task of restoring balance. Netflix’s episode descriptions establish the finale’s Kunlun setting and restoration goal; the detailed account of how the conflict concludes is reported in the ending recap.
What does the ending mean for Lara?
Showrunner Tasha Huo has described the season as a story about Lara confronting grief and isolation—patterns she inherited from her father. Huo said Lara is moving from being a “lone wolf” toward recognizing that she has a team. In that light, Lara’s cooperation with Jonah and Camilla, and her resistance to the Wrath Stone’s influence, suggest a character choosing connection over isolation and vengeance. That reading is an interpretation of the finale, grounded in Huo’s account of the season’s theme.

The series is also designed as a bridge between the Survivor-era Lara and the more iconic adventurer familiar from earlier games and films. Huo described the show as an in-between phase in which Lara is coming of age and working out who she is. Netflix Tudum quotes her: “It’s this in-between phase where she’s coming of age, and she’s learning how to become that person and figuring out who she is.”
What happens to Sam?
During Jonah and Abby’s wedding, Sam calls Lara in distress. Lara senses that something is wrong and, after checking with Jonah, goes to Sam’s home. She finds it disturbed. An investigation board there refers to stolen artifacts and black-market trade, suggesting a new artifact-related investigation, but the season does not confirm who took Sam or where she has gone.

The Sam scene is a cliffhanger after the Peril Stone crisis has been resolved; it is not evidence that Lara failed to restore balance. Any specific explanation of Sam’s disappearance or the identity of a culprit remains speculation.

The animated series takes place after the Survivor trilogy: Tomb Raider, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Netflix describes the show as connecting that origin-story era to the more iconic Lara. That establishes its broad place in the franchise, but it is best not to infer more precise continuity with later games than the show or its creators have stated.
