Taboo season 2 could still happen, but it is not confirmed. In an interview published January 10, 2026, creator Steven Knight said he and Tom Hardy had discussed continuing the story and thought they knew what they would do. The obstacle, Knight said, was “finding the space.” He did not announce filming, a production start or a release date.
What Steven Knight said about Taboo season 2
Knight told Radio Times that he and Hardy had talked about a continuation. “Well, Tom and I have talked about it, and I think we know what we would do,” he said. “It’s just finding the space. But I’d love to, I get asked about it – especially in the States, actually – I get asked about it a lot.”

The comments show that Knight remains interested and that the pair have discussed a possible story. “Finding the space” signals a scheduling challenge, not a production plan. The interview does not report a new commissioning decision or confirm that work has begun.
Is Taboo season 2 confirmed, and when would it come out?
No. The January 2026 update gives no premiere date or release window, and does not confirm filming or a production start. Knight’s enthusiasm is encouraging, but it should not be read as confirmation that season 2 is moving ahead.

Earlier expectations have not produced a current timetable. Radio Times recalls that Knight said in 2022 he expected production to start toward the end of 2023; by the January 2026 interview, he was still describing continuation as a matter of finding time. The old projection is not a current schedule.
Why Tom Hardy’s availability matters
In 2019, FX chairman John Landgraf said the creative team had discussed possible second and third seasons, but the outcome depended on Hardy’s interest and availability. Speaking to BBC America, Landgraf said, “I could see both those seasons getting made and relatively soon, and I could see neither of those seasons getting made.” He also described Hardy as emotionally committed to the character and show, while saying the decision came down to Hardy’s availability.
