Tommaso Ciampa did leave WWE and later joined AEW. On January 21, 2026, he announced that his WWE contract would soon end without naming a new destination. Fans speculated that he might be AEW-bound; later reporting says he debuted for AEW on January 31, and AEW’s official roster lists him as a talent.
What Ciampa said when he announced his WWE departure
In a statement posted January 21, 2026, Ciampa thanked WWE staff, performers and fans, and said he was looking forward to future challenges. He wrote, “In the very near future, my contract with the WWE will officially come to an end,” and added, “I have one decade remaining and I’m beyond excited for whatever challenges lie ahead.” Read the contemporaneous report reproducing his statement.
That statement did not identify AEW as his destination. The AEW speculation was a possibility discussed around the departure announcement, not a destination Ciampa confirmed in the statement.
How Ciampa moved from WWE to AEW
Later reporting says Ciampa made his AEW debut on January 31, 2026, defeating Mark Briscoe to win the TNT Championship. He lost the title 11 days later, according to the same report. Read the report on his AEW debut and title run.
