Some TikTok and other social-media users said they reserved free tickets to Washington’s June 14, 2025 Army anniversary parade despite having no intention of attending. They also claimed the tactic helped explain the event’s turnout. The posts establish that the claims circulated; they do not establish how many reservations were made, how many people stayed away, or whether the campaign changed attendance.
What social-media users claimed
A report by Muhammad Sabeel on Vocal Media described an activist posting on Threads about a TikTok video that explained how to reserve free tickets. The activist said the video had received more than one million views and that they did not plan to attend. The report also described dozens of users on TikTok and X sharing reservation instructions and making similar claims. These are reported claims, not independently verified platform statistics or reservation records. Vocal Media’s report
A contemporaneous reproduction of Forbes reporting similarly described people saying they had reserved tickets without planning to go. It compared the tactic with claims made around the 2020 Tulsa Trump rally, when TikTok users and K-pop fans said they had reserved tickets for an event they would not attend. The reporting cautioned that the 2025 campaign’s effect was difficult to determine, particularly while an outdoor event was still underway. Forbes reporting reproduced by U.S. News UK
What the claims do—and do not—show
- Claims circulated: Users said they had reserved tickets without intending to attend.
- Reservation totals are unverified: The available reporting does not independently establish how many tickets were reserved through the campaign.
- No-show totals are unverified: It does not establish how many ticket holders failed to appear.
- Cause is unproven: There is no verified evidence that the social-media activity caused a change in parade attendance.
The distinction matters: a widely viewed video or a large number of posts is not a count of reservations, no-shows, or people kept away from the event. The reported “more than one million views” figure was the activist’s claim about a TikTok video, not a measurement of tickets or attendance. Vocal Media’s account and the Forbes reporting reproduction do not supply a definitive crowd count or a quantified campaign effect.

Context: the June 14 Army anniversary parade
The parade took place in Washington on June 14, 2025, marking the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary and coinciding with Donald Trump’s 79th birthday. The Associated Press reported that rain held to a drizzle during the march and that heavy clouds and low visibility appeared to reduce the aircraft presence. Weather and other attendance factors are relevant context, but they do not establish why any particular person attended or stayed away. Associated Press event coverage
The Craigslist seat-filler ad was a separate, false claim
Do not confuse the ticket-reservation posts with a separate Craigslist ad that offered payment to people supposedly hired as parade seat fillers. PolitiFact rated the payment claim false: the White House said the ad was fake, and PolitiFact found no evidence that the companies named in it were legitimate. The fact-checker said it could not verify the ad creator’s intent. PolitiFact’s fact-check
