Teeny Chirichillo’s anger after Sam Phalen left them out of a Survivor 47 reward was criticized by some viewers online. But the posts reported at the time do not show how most fans felt. After the finale, Teeny described the rivalry as largely one-sided, acknowledged overreacting, and said they and Sam were good friends off the island.
What happened in Survivor 47, Episode 12?
Sam won a reward that included an Italian meal and letters from home, then chose Andy Rueda and Genevieve Mushaluk to join him. Teeny, Sue, Rachel, and Caroline stayed at camp. A contemporary episode report described Teeny as especially upset and quoted them calling the reward Sam’s “last supper.” Monsters and Critics’ December 8, 2024 recap also reproduced critical social-media posts about Teeny’s reaction, alongside comments suggesting viewers might not have seen all the relevant context.

Those examples establish that some viewers criticized Teeny; they are not a poll or a measure of audience-wide opinion. The episode showed a heated response to being excluded from the meal, while Teeny’s later account offered a more reflective explanation of why the conflict with Sam felt so intense.
What did Teeny say about Sam after the finale?
In a post-finale interview with PAPER, Teeny described the rivalry as “unwarranted” and largely one-sided. They connected their feelings to gender insecurities and said they had projected inner jealousy onto Sam. Teeny also said they recognized there was no substantial reason to hold negative feelings toward him.

They acknowledged that their reaction had gone too far: “I do agree that I overreacted to certain things that Sam did, that didn’t deserve those reactions, and now we’re all on the same page.” Teeny said Sam had been gracious and understanding about the outburst, and described their off-camera relationship this way: “Sam and I are very good friends in the real world.”
Did Teeny apologize for the rant?
Teeny’s episode-night post, reproduced by Monsters and Critics on December 5, 2024, read: “PHEW! Thank god I took that minute so I didn’t say anything I would regret.” That expresses relief about holding back in the moment; by itself, it is not a formal apology. In the later PAPER interview, Teeny gave a fuller reflection and directly acknowledged overreacting. The available statements support describing regret and reflection, not claiming a formal apology beyond what Teeny said.

How much backlash did Teeny receive?
Teeny said in the PAPER interview that hundreds of people came directly to their Instagram page with comments during the darkest period of the reaction. That is Teeny’s own account of the direct comments they received, not an independently verified total of all criticism or a measure of how representative it was. They also said they leaned on friends offline for support.

The reward choice was one moment in a season-long game, not the final word on their relationship. In a separate post-finale interview, Parade reported that Teeny lost the Final Four fire-making duel to Sam and was sent to the jury. In PAPER’s account of their real-life relationship, Teeny said the two were good friends and that Sam had understood their outburst.
