The original exchange has not been identified, so naming a film or describing his reaction as fact would go beyond what is established.
What is known about the alleged exchange?
The title describes Robbie revealing a favorite Gosling role and Gosling reacting with laughter. But the original interview or article documenting that moment has not been located. Without it, the role, setting, and reason for his reaction remain unconfirmed.

A CinemaBlend archive result from January 2024 surfaced general coverage of Barbie and Gosling, but it does not establish this anecdote. No film should be identified as Robbie’s pick on that basis.
What can be verified about Gosling’s roles?
A Los Angeles Times profile published July 11, 2023 discusses Gosling’s casting as Ken in Barbie and lists performances in The Notebook, Drive, The Nice Guys, Blade Runner 2049, and First Man. It does not say which, if any, Robbie favors.

In that profile, director Greta Gerwig described Gosling as someone who could be funny while also exploring Ken’s personal dilemma. She said: “I just knew he could be really funny but also would mine the depths of this kind of outrageous conundrum that Ken finds himself in, as a person.” That is Gerwig’s assessment of his performance, not evidence of Robbie’s favorite role.
Is the story about Gosling breaking character on Saturday Night Live?
No verified link between the two incidents has been established. An Entertainment Tonight report published April 14, 2024 describes Gosling laughing during sketches on Saturday Night Live, including moments with Kate McKinnon and Bowen Yang. Those are separate, documented moments; they do not verify what happened in the Robbie anecdote.

What remains unanswered?
- Which Gosling role Robbie named.
- Where and when she supposedly said it.
- What prompted Gosling’s reaction.
Until a source documenting the exchange is identified, the headline’s central anecdote should be treated as unverified rather than filled in with a guess based on Gosling’s filmography or other moments when he laughed.
