The performance featured Robert’s sister Bindi Irwin and Leona Lewis’s “Footprints in the Sand.” It was not the dance that won them the finale: they later took the Mirrorball with an 89/90 judges’ total, while audience votes also determined the winner.
What Robert Irwin scored for the tribute
The tribute foxtrot received 10s from all four judges, for a perfect 40, according to ABC News Australia’s November 26, 2025 report. Entertainment Now described it as the season’s first perfect 40 in a November 11 report, but that distinction is secondary reporting; ABC confirms the perfect score without establishing its place in the season’s sequence.
How the dance honored Steve Irwin
Robert and Carson danced to Leona Lewis’s “Footprints in the Sand,” the same song Bindi used for a tribute to her father during her own DWTS season. Bindi joined the pair on stage. ABC News Australia describes a montage of Steve with baby Robert playing as Robert broke down during the routine; afterward, Robert called the experience “healing.”
How the tribute fits into season 34
A strong start with Witney Carson
Carson was Robert’s professional partner throughout season 34. On the September 2025 premiere, they performed a jive to Steppenwolf’s “Born to Be Wild.” Judge Derek Hough called it “probably the best first dance I’ve ever seen on this show,” according to ABC News / Good Morning America.

The finale score was a different result
In the November 25 finale, the pair scored 29/30 for quickstep, 30/30 for instant cha-cha-cha and 30/30 for freestyle: 89/90 in judges’ points, according to TV Insider’s finale recap. That total tied Jordan Chiles on the judges’ leaderboard. Robert and Carson nevertheless won the Mirrorball; ABC News Australia reports that audience votes were combined with judges’ scores to determine the season winner. The perfect 40 belonged to the earlier tribute, not to their finale dances.
