Kazuchika Okada ranks first among Kenny Omega’s rivals for the length, variety and stakes of their New Japan Pro-Wrestling series. This is an editorial ranking, not an official top ten: it weighs how clearly each rivalry developed, the range and quality of their matches, title consequences, and the effect on Omega’s story and career. It covers his Japan and AEW years, while distinguishing one-on-one feuds from team and alliance conflicts.
Why Okada is Omega’s defining rival
1. Kazuchika Okada
Okada is the strongest choice for Omega’s greatest rival because their story was built around repeated tests of who could claim to be the best wrestler in the world. Their New Japan encounters gave the rivalry room to evolve: the pair met in bouts with different formats and stakes, rather than relying on one famous match to carry the whole feud. Omega’s pursuit of Okada’s IWGP Heavyweight Championship made the conflict consequential, while the contrasting styles—Okada’s composed, steadily escalating offense against Omega’s explosive pace—made each rematch feel like a new answer to the same question.
That combination of continuity, match variety and championship importance puts Okada at No. 1. AEW’s profile describes Omega as having spent more than a decade wrestling primarily in Japan for DDT and New Japan before signing with the company (AEW profile).

2. Tetsuya Naito
Naito offered a different kind of opposition from Okada: a volatile, unpredictable star whose rebellious persona and LIJ identity made the rivalry feel less like a sporting contest and more like a clash of attitudes. Their New Japan matches connected Omega’s rise to the company’s top tier with the question of who could command the spotlight. Naito’s place this high reflects the depth of that contrast and the importance of their encounters, though the available evidence does not establish a definitive ranking of their series against Omega’s other rivalries.

3. Kota Ibushi
Ibushi was more than a formidable opponent: he was Omega’s former Golden☆Lovers partner, making their conflict unusually personal. Their history let a match carry two meanings at once—the spectacle of two high-flying, technically gifted wrestlers pushing one another, and the tension of a friendship that had broken down. That emotional foundation gives Ibushi a stronger claim than a rival defined only by title contention. It also makes their story distinct from Omega’s more formal championship duels in New Japan.
4. Will Ospreay
Ospreay represents a later-generation challenge to Omega’s standing as an elite international performer. The appeal of the rivalry is the direct comparison: two high-output wrestlers with different rhythms, both capable of turning a contest into a test of endurance and adaptability. It ranks below the Japan rivalries with longer-established personal or championship arcs, but the generational framing makes Ospreay a meaningful opponent in the broader account of Omega’s career.

5. “Hangman” Adam Page
Page’s rivalry with Omega is central to AEW’s story of friendship, ambition and the cost of chasing success. Their partnership in the tag division made the eventual break more than a standard betrayal angle: the audience had seen them rely on each other before becoming opponents. Page’s pursuit of Omega’s AEW World Championship then gave the personal conflict a clear sporting consequence. This combination of relationship history and title stakes earns Page a place near the top of the AEW portion of the list.
6. Jon Moxley
Moxley was the opponent who helped define Omega’s most severe AEW transformation. Their clashes pitted Moxley’s brawling, confrontational approach against Omega’s precision and showmanship, creating a rivalry in which the question was not simply who was the better wrestler, but how far Omega would go to win. AEW says Omega later won its world title after aligning with Don Callis, with Moxley as his opponent (AEW profile). That title context and the shift in Omega’s character make Moxley one of his consequential rivals.

Jericho was a high-profile early test of Omega’s ability to carry his reputation from Japan into the new AEW platform. Their contest headlined Double or Nothing in May 2019, where Jericho beat Omega, according to AEW (AEW profile). The result gave Omega an immediate setback rather than an easy coronation and made the encounter an important opening chapter in his AEW career. Jericho ranks below the longer-running rivalries because the feud’s significance is concentrated more in its timing and symbolic stakes than in sustained development.
Alliances and team conflicts that became rivalries
8. Don Callis
Callis is not a conventional in-ring rival, but he became a defining antagonist through betrayal and manipulation. His alliance with Omega preceded Omega’s AEW World Championship win; the eventual split turned a trusted adviser into a personal enemy. AEW says the pair separated in May 2023, after which Omega’s pursuit of the title and vengeance was interrupted by a serious medical issue. Omega returned in January 2025 against Brian Cage (AEW profile). Callis ranks here because the feud profoundly affected Omega’s character, even though it is not comparable to a long series of singles matches.

9. The Young Bucks
This is a team and faction rivalry, not a single-person feud. The Bucks’ history with Omega as fellow members of The Elite made conflict among them carry the tension of a fractured group and close professional relationships. Their place in the ranking is about what that conflict added to Omega’s larger AEW story, rather than a claim that the Bucks were one unified singles opponent. It ranks below the strongest one-on-one rivalries because its central appeal depends on the group dynamic.
10. PAC
PAC belongs on the list as a sharply contrasting AEW opponent: his speed, aggression and willingness to attack openings made him a credible obstacle to Omega’s technical control. Their rivalry is less defining than the long arcs above, but it added variety to Omega’s AEW singles competition and demonstrated that not every meaningful opponent needed a years-long personal history. It rounds out the ten as a strong competitive foil rather than a career-defining adversary.

How to read the ranking
The first three places favor rivalries with clear personal or championship arcs and enough continuity to develop beyond a single match. The AEW list mixes traditional opponents with Callis and the Bucks because Omega’s story there often turned on broken alliances as much as on one-on-one contests. Those entries are not interchangeable: a betrayal can reshape a character, while a title feud is judged more directly through the matches and stakes.
There is no official AEW or New Japan ranking establishing these ten as Omega’s definitive rivals. The order is a critical judgment, and reasonable readers could move Page, Moxley or Ibushi higher depending on whether they value emotional storytelling, championship stakes or in-ring rivalry most.
