Lee Claydon, a 45-year-old man from Bournemouth, died after a fall during Oasis’s Wembley Stadium concert on 2 August 2025. Police said their investigation was complete and described his death as a tragic accident, but the coroner’s inquiry is continuing: a report on the safety risks of the level-five barriers has been ordered, and the full inquest is scheduled to begin in February 2027.
What happened at the Oasis concert?
Claydon was injured during the band’s concert at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, 2 August 2025. The Metropolitan Police said officers on duty responded at about 22:19 alongside venue medics and the London Ambulance Service. He was found with injuries consistent with a fall and taken to a medical centre at Wembley, where he was pronounced dead at 10:38pm. The concert was the fourth of seven sold-out Wembley dates, according to ITV’s contemporaneous report.

At the opening of the inquest in September 2025, the court heard that a post-mortem examination gave the preliminary medical cause of death as “multiple bodily injuries.” That is the preliminary cause recorded at the hearing, not a final inquest conclusion.
What did the police investigation conclude?
At a pre-inquest review in November 2025, Metropolitan Police Detective Sergeant James Raffin said the police investigation was complete. He said police did not suspect third-party involvement, had ruled out suicide and had no concerns about a toxicology report they had seen. Raffin described the death as a “tragic accident.”

That was the police position at the review, not the coroner’s final verdict. The police investigation and the inquest are separate: police have completed their inquiry, while the coroner is examining the circumstances and safety questions before reaching an inquest conclusion.
Why has the coroner ordered a Wembley barrier report?
In February 2026, senior coroner Andrew Walker ordered a report examining the barriers on level five, the level from which Claydon fell. The request followed a letter raising safety concerns, understood to have been written by a former Wembley employee. Walker said: “What I really need to understand is the risk associated with the barriers.”
The report is to examine:
- the barriers’ design, height and placement;
- the risks associated with them;
- whether they have been modified since installation; and
- whether the venue’s safety arrangements provide a safe environment.
Ordering the report is part of the coroner’s inquiry. It does not establish that the barriers caused the fall or that they were unsafe. The report’s findings and the inquest’s conclusions remain pending.

The latest reported update, published on 16 September 2026, says the full inquest is scheduled to run for two weeks from 15 February 2027. It could be postponed to 1 March if witnesses are unavailable. The pre-inquest review was adjourned to 29 April 2026; the full inquest schedule is the later reported timetable.

What have Oasis and police said?
After the death, Oasis said: “We are shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic death of a fan at the show last night.” The band also extended its condolences to Claydon’s family and friends.
In the police account reported at the November 2025 review, Raffin said: “This, from everything we have seen, was a tragic accident.” His statement describes the police position; it is not a final finding by the coroner.
