Lady Gaga’s free Copacabana concert on May 3, 2025, drew a reported 2.1 million people to the beach, while Globo said its combined TV Globo and Multishow broadcast reached more than 34.5 million television viewers. Those figures measure different audiences; no separate viewer total was stated for Globoplay or the other online platforms.
How many people attended Lady Gaga’s Copacabana concert?
Rio de Janeiro City Hall reported that 2.1 million people attended the free concert at Copacabana Beach on Saturday, May 3, 2025, as part of the Todo Mundo no Rio event. The city said its estimate drew on figures from City Hall, the Military Police and the show’s production. Rio City Hall’s May 4 announcement is the source for that on-site estimate.
That figure is not the same as the number of tourists in Rio around the event. City Hall separately reported that more than 500,000 tourists arrived in the city from May 1 through May 3. Globo’s preview the day before the concert said officials had initially expected more than 1.5 million people on the beach. Neither number should be substituted for the final attendance estimate.
How many people watched the concert on television?
Billboard Brasil reported on May 8 that Globo released a figure of more than 34.5 million television viewers for the combined TV Globo and Multishow broadcast. This is a reported TV audience figure, not a separately stated Globoplay audience, and Billboard attributed it to Globo rather than presenting it as an independent audit. Billboard Brasil’s report gives the figure.

Ratings points are a different measure
The same Billboard Brasil report said the broadcast recorded 14 audience points nationally, 4% above the preceding four-week comparison cited in its report. A rating point is not a count of viewers, so it should not be read as another way of saying 14 million people watched.
Popline reported additional figures attributed to a press release based on Kantar Ibope Media data for Total Individuals: 20.9 audience points in Rio de Janeiro, 27% above the four-week comparison period, and more than 3.6 million people reached on Multishow. These are secondary-reported press-release figures, not independently reviewed primary data. The Rio rating is market-specific; it is not directly interchangeable with the national rating or total TV reach. Popline’s report attributes these figures to that source chain.

Where could viewers watch the show?
Globo announced a live broadcast on TV Globo and Multishow. Its pre-event announcement also named Globoplay, and post-event coverage listed online transmission through Globoplay, g1 and gshow. Globo later prepared a Multishow and Globoplay replay. These listings establish how the concert was distributed, but do not establish whether a replay remains available on demand now. Globo’s post-event coverage describes the broadcast and performance.
The reviewed reports do not state separate digital viewer totals for Globoplay, g1 or gshow. The more-than-34.5-million figure is for the combined television broadcast as reported by Billboard Brasil; assigning it to streaming would conflate distinct platforms and measures.

Why the audience figures cannot be added or directly compared
- 2.1 million: Rio City Hall’s estimate of people physically at the beach.
- More than 34.5 million: the TV audience figure Globo released for TV Globo and Multishow, as reported by Billboard Brasil.
- Audience points: ratings measures reported nationally and for Rio, not headcounts.
- Streaming: online distribution was listed, but separate platform viewer totals were not stated in the cited reports.
The sources do not provide enough methodology to determine unique viewers across the two TV channels or to compare their combined reach directly with the on-site crowd. A person attending the concert and a person counted in a television audience are also different kinds of measures.
What happened during the concert?
Globo’s post-event account describes the performance in five acts and lists songs including “Bloody Mary,” “Abracadabra,” “Poker Face,” “Alejandro,” “Born This Way,” “Shallow” and “Bad Romance.” The Associated Press reported the event and quoted Gaga telling the crowd: “Tonight, we’re making history. (…) Thank you for making history with me,” according to its May 3 report. Globo’s preview framed the production as an opera-like pop spectacle through presenter commentary; that description was commentary, not an official technical classification.
